Horse riding at the stables, an easy winter hike to Ottenzell and an MTB tour downhill to Kummersdorf give the area a clear profile for active days. The routes are not interchangeable: their starting points, destinations and types differ—even where the same trail marker appears.
Horse Riding at the Kummersdorf Riding Stables
The Kummersdorf riding stables are located between Hohenbogen and Großer Arber, away from federal highways and motorways. Meadows, paddocks and forests surround the facility. The stables include a 40 × 40 m all-weather riding arena and a 19 m lunging ring, both with Otto Loch mats and a sand-and-fleece mixture. There is also a 15 × 15 m indoor exercise hall. There are good opportunities for trail riding directly from the stables. If any of these facilities are important for your plans, check their current setup in advance.
Pony Rides by Appointment
Pony rides at the Mühlbauer riding stables in Kummersdorf must be booked in advance: you can book through the Arrach Tourist Information Office or directly with the Mühlbauer family. Check booking options again before your trip so you can plan this activity accordingly.
Winter Hiking and Cycling on Different Routes
The easy Ar winter hike starts at the “Am Hohenbogen” holiday village near the Arrach district of Kummersdorf. It follows a cleared pedestrian path along hiking trails Ar7 and Ar4 to Ottenzell. This clearly describes both the type of route and its destination.
The Ar04 “Around Arrach” route follows a different sequence of paths: on the return, it first takes a forest path and then a meadow path. Trail conditions can vary seasonally; take this into account when planning.
The “Arrach - Haibühl - Kolmstein” MTB tour follows hiking trail Ar7 downhill to Kummersdorf. Ar7 also features on the winter hike, where the cleared pedestrian path runs along Ar4 to Ottenzell. So when comparing routes, consider the activity and destination as well as the trail marker.
More to Explore in the Wider Arrach Destination
In the wider Arrach destination, the Seepark, opened in 1999, offers a further range of leisure activities. The park includes a natural swimming lake, pirate rafts, a water fountain and an anchored swimming island. There is also a sand volleyball court, an adventure playground for children, a glass-bead pool for toddlers, a kiosk and walking paths. The sports and recreation area includes a grass playing field, a 400-metre tartan track, a cinder sports field and a tartan all-weather court. Check the current availability of the facilities on site.
From Seepark Arrach, you can access the Arrach Moor and its educational trail; a wooden boardwalk lets you explore the nature reserve. The health resort of Arrach offers a total of 90 kilometres of marked hiking trails and is located directly on the GOLDSTEIG certified hiking trail.
Culture is also part of the wider Arrach destination: the Bayerwald Craft Museum at the Drexler farm showcases common local trades, including shoemaking, woodturning, broom-making, carpentry, blacksmithing and schnapps distilling. The collection comprises more than 2,000 exhibits, tools and machines. The Arrach Glass Gate is a glass monument installed in Arrach in 1997 to mark the inauguration of the Glass Route.
