For a stay in Tretting, the hiking routes offer specific destinations, while the chapel, with its glass art, adds a distinctive cultural touch. Kirta and the village Christmas celebration add specific dates to your plans.

Hiking the Sebastiansweg and Kalkofen Circular Trail

Hiking trail As01 is also known as the Sebastiansweg. It passes through Tretting and continues towards Kalkofen. In Tretting’s Birkenberg, it shares a short section of a few metres with the Goldsteig.

From the village of Tretting, the Kalkofen Circular Trail As03 follows a field path to Kalkofen, past a limestone mine and through Hochholz to the Tretting Chapel. The trail reaches Tretting via Birkenberg.

You can compare the routes by their different features when choosing which one to take: As01 connects the route through the village with a short shared section of the Goldsteig. As03 passes several named points on its way to the chapel. Both route descriptions mention Kalkofen, but each includes other distinct waypoints.

Tretting Chapel and Glass Art

The Arnschwang Forest Chapel is also known as the Tretting Chapel; many hiking trails lead to it. The gable wall of the Tretting village chapel features biblical motifs in glass. The central figure is the Patrona Bavariae. The glass art at the chapel in the village of Tretting was created in 2002.

For travellers interested in sacred art, the central motif and year of creation make the chapel a specific cultural attraction. Alongside the hiking destinations, visitors can discover a named artwork and its imagery.

Kirta and the Village Christmas Celebration

Kirta in Tretting is celebrated every year on 1 May. The third Tretting village Christmas celebration was scheduled for 12 December 2025 at 5 pm at the Zur Linde inn; another edition is scheduled there for 11 December 2026 at 5 pm. This means the calendar includes both an annual recurring event and two specifically dated editions of the village Christmas celebration.

If you would like to plan your trip around the village Christmas celebration, check the event date again before travelling.
