Königsdorf offers several different ways to enjoy a stay, from moorland paths and local history to art. The Panorama Trail leads through the Königsdorf Moor and climbs up to Dachsberg; another circular trail passes Königsdorfer Alm, Bibisee and the gliding airfield. There is also the Path of History, with 37 information boards, the local history museum and three frescoes by Georg Demmel. You can therefore choose between outdoor activity and different ways of discovering the town.

Moorland Paths, Circular Trails and Cross-Country Skiing

Opened in 2010, the Panorama Trail is a circular route through the Königsdorf Moor that climbs up to Dachsberg, where you can enjoy a view. The “Königsdorfer Alm and Bibisee” circular trail partly follows the Way of St James and passes Königsdorfer Alm, Bibisee and the gliding airfield. The trails have different highlights: the Panorama Trail focuses on the view from Dachsberg, while the other circular trail takes in its named stops in sequence.

If you are planning a cross-country skiing trip, another option is a five-kilometre loop from Bibisee to the Königsdorf gliding airfield. Snow conditions and trail grooming vary by season, so take these into account when planning. Alongside the circular trails described above, Königsdorf therefore also offers a cross-country skiing option whose conditions depend on the time of year.

Local History on Foot, by Bike and in the Museum

The Path of History offers another way to explore Königsdorf: 37 information boards divide it into three sections, which can be explored on foot or by bike. Here, the focus is on Königsdorf’s history, unlike the routes shaped by the moor, a climb or named stops. The boards provide a guiding thread. This gives visitors interested in the local past a clear alternative to scenic views and points of interest along the way.

The Königsdorf Local History Museum presents the town’s history in words and pictures, as well as an extensive collection of tools and equipment from earlier rural life. The formats are distinctly different: on the Path of History, information boards accompany your exploration; in the museum, historical displays are combined with farming equipment. This gives you a choice between a themed route and a museum visit, depending on whether you would prefer to discover local history as you go or through a collection.

Frescoes by Georg Demmel

Königsdorf is also home to three frescoes by Georg Demmel: “The Good Samaritan” at the painter’s childhood home, “Trades and Farmers” at the Raiffeisenbank and “The Church Year” on the south side of the school. Their subjects and locations give each work a distinct character. Alongside the museum and Path of History, they offer another way to explore local history: art on different buildings complements the collection and the information boards along the route.
