Wassertrüdingen brings together traditional legends, city history and water as a theme for nature and leisure. The old town lies between Wörnitzpark and Klingenweiherpark; Klingenweiherpark is located in the north of the town. These local features give a stay different cultural and scenic focal points.

Legends, City History and Culture

The Legends Trail is a circular route with eleven stops featuring traditional legends, stories and tales from Wassertrüdingen and the surrounding villages. It starts at the southern entrance to Klingenweiherpark and can be explored independently. The stops focus on stories from the town and its surroundings, giving the route a clear thematic framework.

The FLUVIUS Museum focuses on river and pond landscapes. Interactive stations on two levels explore their origins, distinctive features and wildlife; a large aquarium with native fish complements the exhibition. The upper floor also covers pond farming and the carp, Middle Franconia’s “fish star.” This brings together bodies of water as habitats and their use for pond farming under one roof.

The Törle is considered a landmark of Wassertrüdingen. It is the last surviving town gate of the three that once stood here. Another trace of the past is the former tower keeper’s room in the tower of the town church: it dates from the 19th century and has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail. The two historic structures served different functions: one is a town gate, the other a restored room in a church tower.

The Wassertrüdingen Puppet Theatre offers puppet shows for all ages. After the performances, visitors can also view a small puppet museum. Unlike at the FLUVIUS Museum, the performance takes centre stage here; the puppet museum complements it afterwards.

Places by the Water and Walking Routes

In Wörnitzpark, on the edge of the old town, seating steps by the Mühlweiher and walk-through fish ladders along the Wörnitz peninsula invite visitors to experience the water up close. The seating steps offer a place to sit by the Mühlweiher, while the fish ladders can be walked along the peninsula. Thus, sitting by the water and walking along the Wörnitz are distinct features of the park.

The Wörnitz River Bath has a lagoon-like shallow-water area and a play area for children. This sets it apart from the park features: at the river bath, the bathing area and play area shape the visit, while Wörnitzpark offers seating steps and walk-through fish ladders.

In Klingenweiherpark, the Golden Pond Trail connects the three Klingenweiher ponds with a viewing platform on the former landfill mound. The Legends Trail starts at the southern entrance to the same park. The two trails have different thematic focuses: the Pond Trail centres on the ponds and viewpoint, while the Legends Trail focuses on traditional stories from Wassertrüdingen and the surrounding villages. Visitors can choose between a scenic and a storytelling focus.

The water attractions also differ in how they approach the subject: FLUVIUS explores bodies of water as landscapes and habitats, Wörnitzpark brings visitors close to the water with its seating steps and walk-through fish ladders, and the river bath offers a shallow-water area. These differences can help you match your cultural and water-related interests to your stay.
