The Inn Cycle Path runs directly past Lake Perach; when it freezes, ice skating and Bavarian curling are possible there. At the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, the building’s history dates back to Romanesque remains of a predecessor church. Perach thus brings together a route connection, seasonal activities and a specific historical landmark.
The parish church and its building history
The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary was renovated in the 15th century, incorporating Romanesque remains of a predecessor church. The building therefore reflects more than one period: older elements were retained during the later renovation. Visitors interested in local history as expressed in specific buildings will find a clear point of reference here in Perach. The church complements the lakeside attractions with a historical perspective on the town.
Lake Perach between the cycle route and winter activities
For cycle tourists, the connection between the Inn Cycle Path and Lake Perach is a local point of reference: the route runs directly past the lake. The Altötting district also lists the Perach swimming lake as one of its bathing lakes. If you are planning a visit, check the respective facilities and conditions. The route and lake appeal to different interests, which can be considered separately or together when choosing a destination.
In winter, use of the ice depends on the conditions. When temperatures are below freezing, you can go ice skating and play Bavarian curling at the Perach swimming lake; the ice may only be accessed when it is thick enough. Check that this requirement is met before stepping onto the ice. While the Inn Cycle Path offers a year-round route connection, the two lake activities depend on freezing temperatures and sufficiently thick ice.
Dachlwand in the wider regional area
In the wider region around Perach, Dachlwand lies on the Inn, northwest of Marktl. The nature reserve covers parts of the municipalities of Marktl, Erlbach and Perach; it was converted from a landscape conservation area into a nature reserve in 1986. It covers approximately 206 hectares. Dachlwand should not be equated with the settlement area of Perach.
Landscape and activities in the wider Altötting destination
The wider Altötting destination includes a district located along the Inn and Salzach rivers. A plain about ten kilometres wide, through which the Inn flows, is bordered to the north and south by green, rolling countryside. Together with the Mühldorf district, Altötting belongs to the Inn-Salzach tourism region. Its visitor information includes cycle routes and pilgrimage trails, museums and bathing lakes. This regional perspective complements the view of Perach with landscape and leisure activities across the district.
The natural attractions of the wider destination also include the “Lower Inn between Haiming and Neuhaus” wetland and nature reserve. It provides a habitat for migrating, overwintering and breeding marsh and water birds; more than 25 different bird species associated with water and wetlands breed there. In Altöttinger Gries, a nature trail along a stream features ten interactive stations. The circular route there is approximately 1.4 kilometres long. The wider region thus offers both a protected area of particular importance for birds and a short circular walk with interactive stations.
