A two-hour circular hike, a walking trail through old orchards and views near Hohenried reveal different sides of Petersdorf. The trails offer various ways to spend your time here: Route 8 has a clearly defined length and walking time, while the forest and orchard nature trail leads through a village, woodland and orchards. When choosing a hotel in Petersdorf, it may help to decide first whether you mainly want to explore the local trails or also visit places in the wider Aichach-Friedberg destination.

Hiking and walking in Petersdorf

Route 8 is a seven-kilometre circular hike with a walking time of two hours. It is marked in blue and yellow and starts at the Petersdorf sports grounds, Hohenrieder StraĂźe 19. This gives you a specific time frame for the hike. The route guide was published in 2018, so checking the route before setting off is a sensible way to prepare.

The Hohenried forest and orchard nature trail offers a different way to explore the area. This 4.5-kilometre walking trail passes through Hohenried, a district of Petersdorf, and the surrounding woodland, as well as along orchards with old trees. Unlike the Route 8 circular hike, it combines village, woodland and orchards along a walking trail. When planning, you can therefore choose between the stated walking time of a circular hike and a shorter route through varied landscapes.

The other stops along Route 8 also give the hike a variety of highlights. Within the immediate area of the destination, the route passes through Klenkbauernholz to Willprechtszell, home to a former pilgrimage church. Schindelberg in Schönleiten offers a lovely view before Route 8 returns to Hohenried. From St. George and Gregory’s Church in Hohenried, the view extends across the surrounding countryside; in föhn conditions, it can reach as far as the Alps. This view is expressly dependent on the weather.

Cycling and the wider region

The “Hofmarken am Lechrain” cycling route passes through Petersdorf. For cycling tours in the Aichach-Friedberg district, its cycling map features 14 well-signposted themed routes. Check the conditions on the relevant route before setting off. This lets you treat the local cycling route as a destination in its own right, while the cycling map opens up further routes across the wider Aichach-Friedberg destination.

The Paartal Hiking Trail is also part of the wider Aichach-Friedberg destination. It follows the middle reaches of the Paar from Aichach to Gut Schenkenau in the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district and is 36.8 kilometres long in total. This provides a longer regional hiking route than Route 8 in Petersdorf.

Culture in Aichach-Friedberg

If you would like to include cultural attractions in Aichach-Friedberg alongside the trails, you will find a range of historical themes. In Friedberg, the pilgrimage church of Herrgottsruh was built between 1731 and 1753; it is considered one of the finest examples of Bavarian Rococo. Friedberg’s Wittelsbach Castle stands on the site of a High Medieval castle built around 1257 under Duke Ludwig II the Strict.

In Aichach, the Wittelsbach Museum is housed in the Lower Gate. The town museum tells the story of the town, whose historic old town has changed little over the centuries. These cultural attractions complement Petersdorf’s trails with a distinct regional focus. If you choose Petersdorf as your place to stay, you can plan around whether local hiking and cycling routes are your main focus or whether you would also like to include other places in the wider Aichach-Friedberg destination.
