The Rose Hiking Trail leads through Weilheim, past the church and towards the edge of town. It is also a 33.63-kilometre themed circular route. When planning, there are therefore two important aspects to consider: the route through the town and the full length of the circular trail.

Hiking trails with different highlights

The “Weilheim: To the Waterfall Trail” begins at Weilheim Town Hall. It follows the signposted Rose Hiking Trail uphill towards Dietlingen as far as a chapel. This makes the starting point and the route beyond it clear; the climb and the chapel help you get your bearings. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Another hiking option in the municipality of Weilheim is the Monastery and Stations of the Cross Trail, a 12-kilometre circular walk. Its spiritual highlights include Maria Bronnen Monastery, the Fatima Chapel and the Stations of the Cross. Compared with the Rose Hiking Trail’s 33.63 kilometres, this loop is shorter and is also distinguished by its spiritual elements. The 21.63-kilometre difference makes the distance between the two circular routes immediately clear.

The Rose-Rhine Tour is suitable for e-bike rides. This provides an e-bike-friendly tour alongside the hiking options.

The Waldhaus Bike Marathon takes place annually in the municipality of Weilheim. Participants can choose individual or group routes of 30 or 40 kilometres, with 450 or 900 metres of elevation gain. Distance, elevation gain and participation format are the specific points for comparing the event. The Rose-Rhine Tour and the marathon are different cycling options: the tour’s main feature is its suitability for e-bikes, while the marathon offers a choice of individual or group routes with stated distances and elevation gains.

Geographical orientation and landscape

One geographical landmark in the municipality is in Nöggenschwiel: the geographical centre of Waldshut district is located there, within the municipality of Weilheim. It is marked by a roughly two-metre-high “marker drop.” The name Nöggenschwiel is important for finding this point; it locates the centre within the municipality.

In the municipality of Weilheim, the Haselbach waterfall plunges 14 metres over a rocky ledge. Its height gives a concrete sense of scale for this landscape feature. Together with the marked centre, the waterfall illustrates two different aspects of the municipality: geography and landscape.

A cultural highlight in the wider Waldshut destination

In the wider Waldshut destination, the history of Kaiserstraße offers an urban cultural highlight. When the street became a pedestrian zone in 1989, the town stream was moved back to the middle of the street and three fountains were built again. This change links the street’s redevelopment with the design of its public space. Alongside Weilheim’s hiking and landscape experiences, visitors to the wider destination can therefore also explore a historical perspective on public space.
