Saint-Baldoph lies at the northern end of the Chartreuse massif, at the foot of the northern slopes of Mont Granier. The commune brings together short hiking trails, winegrowing and traces of history. This gives you different options when planning your visit: trails and views, local wine culture or architectural history.

Circular Trails and Viewpoints

From the Sentier de la Croix de la Coche, you can continue as far as Bec du Corbeau, at an elevation of 755 m. From there, the view takes in Montagnole, the Chambéry basin and Lac du Bourget. This section of trail combines a specific elevation with several named viewpoints.

The Petite boucle des Sources is 1.2 km long and passes through old villages and by basins; along the way, there are views of the Bauges and Mont Granier. The Petite boucle de Ronjou covers 1.4 km and has 150 m of elevation gain. It climbs to the old village of Ronjou and joins the Sentier des Huguenots. Limestone cascades, stretches of woodland and views of Belledonne are also part of this route. The two trails are similar in length; the Ronjou route also has a stated elevation gain and a climb.

Trail conditions on the two municipal routes may change. Check them before setting out.

Exercise at Frainet

The Frainet site has an outdoor fitness and cross-training station for individual or group exercise. The equipment may change over time. If a particular piece of equipment is important to you, check what is available in advance.

The Grand Tour at Frainet is a 600 m circular route, marked every 50 m. You can use it for jogging, walking or a stroll, alone or with your family. Frainet therefore offers two different ways to exercise: training at the outdoor station and following a marked loop.

Winegrowing and Local Visits

Winegrowing has shaped the landscape of Saint-Baldoph for several centuries. The commune is one of five places named by the Parc naturel régional de Chartreuse in this context. Saint-Baldoph is also part of the grape-growing area for Vin de Savoie Apremont. The landscape and the appellation give winegrowing here a specific regional connection.

Another way to explore the subject is to take a free tour of the wine cellar and estate at Domaine Bernard et Christophe Richel. Ask in advance about availability for your visit date.

Traces of History

The church portal is the only surviving remnant of the 13th-century building and has been preserved in the 17th-century facade. At the same site, a medieval remnant meets a later facade design.

The very old stone Croix de la Coche was moved to the mountain of La Coche in 1872 at the initiative of the parish priest Anthelme Martin. The Maison-forte de Charvet, also known as Montcharvaix, is another historical landmark in Saint-Baldoph: its first mentions date from the 15th century. Together, the portal, cross and fortified house offer different points of reference for the history of the village, without constituting a fixed sightseeing itinerary.
