Lépin-Le-Lac lies on the shore of Lac d’Aiguebelette. The first stage of the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette starts at the railway station; the beach, bike hire and other routes offer different ways to enjoy the area. If you’re looking for accommodation in the village, you can plan your stay around whether you mainly want to spend time by the water, are interested in a cycling and kayaking tour, or want to explore a particular stage on foot.

Arriving, cycling and planning a beach visit

Lépin-le-Lac-la-Bauche railway station has a TER ticket machine and individually assigned bicycle lockers with free access. These are two separate facilities for your arrival: the machine is for TER tickets, and the lockers are for bicycles. Check the station facilities before your trip.

Opposite the railway station, Cyclopiet rents touring bikes, electric bikes, mountain bikes, children’s bikes and trailers. You can also arrange to be accompanied by an MCF instructor. Bike hire and optional accompaniment are two different ways to include cycling in your plans. As the provider’s services may change, check the current offer in advance.

Le Sunset plage is a supervised beach on Lac d’Aiguebelette. Supervision is seasonal, and the beach is within walking distance of Lépin-le-Lac railway station. If you’re planning a beach visit, take the seasonal beach regulations into account and check the conditions before your visit.

Distinguishing between cycling and hiking routes

The Itinérance vélo-kayak au lac d’Aiguebelette has its southern secondary base in Lépin-le-Lac. On this tour, the outward journey is by bike and the return journey is by kayak; a roadbook serves as a guide. The change of transport modes is a key feature. Availability may vary seasonally, so it’s worth checking in advance whether the tour is offered on your travel dates.

The Voie verte offers another way to explore the area around the lake: 10 of the 17 kilometres of the loop around the lake can be covered on foot or by bike. This gives you two different ways to plan your outing: a tour by bike and kayak, or a section of the loop that can be enjoyed on foot or by bike.

The hiking stages also differ in their routes. The first stage of the GR®9 en Chartreuse runs from Lépin-le-Lac to Vergenucle-d’en-Bas (Dullin), initially following a yellow-marked PR trail before joining the GR®9. It passes through the characteristic landscapes of the Avant-Pays savoyard and offers sweeping views of the Massif du Mont Grêle. By contrast, the first stage of the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette starts at Lépin-le-Lac railway station and climbs via the Voie romaine to the heights of La Bridoire. The starting points, trail markings and routes listed here help you distinguish between the trails according to their specific characteristics.

Archaeological heritage in the surrounding area

The Beau Phare archaeological site lies in the wider area around Lépin-Le-Lac. It contains a Neolithic stilt-house village with an access path and palisades. The site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. This adds an archaeological point of interest to the area’s themes of lake, beach and outdoor activities. Beau Phare is a destination in the wider area, not part of the stages mentioned in the village.
