Discover Aigueblanche through its architecture, walking routes and walnut oil mill, which resumed oil production after being restored. The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the Château represent different chapters in the history of architecture. Two circular routes offer practical information for planning time outdoors: one specifies duration and difficulty, while the other describes the trail surface and route. Together with the mill, they offer different options for a stay without needing to combine them into a fixed daily itinerary.

Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste

The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a simple Neo-Gothic church with a Latin-cross floor plan. Its history makes it unusual in the region: it is one of the few churches in the Tarentaise that was not altered in the 17th and 18th centuries. Comparisons with other churches in the region make this period particularly relevant. Visitors interested in architecture will find specific features to consider here: the Neo-Gothic style, simple design and cruciform floor plan.

Château of Aigueblanche

The Château is a former fortification dating from the late 13th century, located in the centre of the village. The structure includes a square tower. The manor house visible today appears to date from the late 15th century. These dates refer to different parts or aspects of the Château: the fortification is dated to the late 13th century, while the origins of the visible manor house are tentatively attributed to the late 15th century. This makes it possible to understand the history of the site through several periods, rather than reducing the Château to a single date.

Two circular routes with different details

“Les vignes et vergers sur les coteaux d’Aigueblanche” is a very easy, two-hour circular route. On the way back, it follows a greenway (voie verte) to Aigueblanche. The duration provides a practical guide for planning your time; route conditions may change, so it is advisable to check the details before setting out.

The “Au Fil de L’Eau – B23” loop starts at the Aigueblanche bridge and follows a well-maintained, flat path along the Isère. The loop also includes an interpretation trail about the facilities on the Morel. The two routes can be distinguished by their different features: the duration and difficulty are given for “Les vignes et vergers,” while the B23 description covers the route and path surface. This allows you to take into account the details most important for planning your walk.

Walnut oil mill and demonstration

The walnut oil mill also connects local heritage with an insight into how oil is made. The restored mill is running again and has resumed producing oil. It is included in a guided tour with a demonstration. If you plan to visit, check the tour time in advance, as schedules may change. The mill complements the buildings and walking routes with a focus on the work involved in oil milling.
