Explore Fleurie through two themes closely connected with the village: Fleurie Cru wine and routes through the wine-growing landscape. Wine experiences include guided tastings, cellar tours, and guided vineyard tours; the walking routes vary in distance, duration, and destination. You can plan your stay according to whether you’d like to learn more about winegrowing or make time for a hike.

Fleurie Cru and its wine experiences

The geographical area of the Fleurie AOP is limited to the commune of Fleurie. The AOP designation applies to a red wine and is one of the Beaujolais Crus; it is made from the local Gamay grape variety.

The Maison du Cru Fleurie sells wines from 32 wineries. It also offers a guided tasting led by one of the 32 winemakers. The Maison is open daily from March to December. This information can help with planning if you want to make the tasting a set part of your itinerary.

At the Cave de Fleurie, the winegrowers’ cooperative takes center stage: its discovery tour includes a guided visit and a tasting of three or five wines with a light snack. The experience is available year-round by prior reservation. The formats are therefore quite different: the Maison offers wines from 32 wineries and a guided tasting with a winemaker, while the Cave combines a tour, a selection of wines, and a light snack.

Château de Poncié offers a guided tour of the estate and its vineyard work, together with a guided tasting of six wines in the cellar. The guided vineyard tour introduces visitors to the diversity and richness of the Fleurie Cru terroirs in Beaujolais. Château des Bachelards is a 12-hectare estate in Fleurie; its vineyards have been farmed without chemical inputs since 2007. Tours are available year-round and take visitors through the vineyards and cellars, introducing biodynamic farming and the wine-making process. It is advisable to check dates and visiting arrangements in advance for these estate visits.

Walking routes and views

The easy Sentier des Lys is 3.5 km long, climbs 125 metres, and has a stated duration of 1 hour and 20 minutes. It passes several stops on the way to the Madone. Each stop presents themes, stories, or anecdotes about wine and winegrowing. The route is free to access every day year-round. Its stated duration makes it easy to plan around; check route conditions before setting out.

The Circuit Entre vignes et bois circular route leads to the Chapelle de La Madone. It offers panoramic views over the Beaujolais vineyards; in favorable weather, the view extends to the Alpine range and Mont Blanc. The Chapelle de La Madone also offers panoramic views over the vineyards of the surrounding Beaujolais Crus. The Madone de Fleurie was built in 1866.

Another walking option is the Parcours d'Orientation spécial Enfants: an 8 km orienteering hike for children aged 8 and over. When planning, consider both the route length and the age limit; check participation requirements in advance. The Sentier des Lys, meanwhile, has a stated duration and winegrowing themes at its stops. These details can help you choose a hike that suits your schedule and interests.
