At an altitude of 1,650 m, Villard-Reymond lies in the Écrins National Park, in the Oisans mountains. The municipality combines an alpine landscape with a village whose houses and washhouse are part of its character. There are different ways to plan your trip: in summer, trails lead towards Prégentil and Clot de la Selle; in winter, there are routes for snowshoeing and ski touring.

Mountain forests, pastures and wildlife

The municipal area extends from the Torrent de la Lignarre to the summit of Grand Renaud. Mountain forests and alpine pastures shape the landscape; the named alpages include those at Grand Renaud and Prégentil. These habitats provide space for chamois and roe deer, as well as alpine birds, including black grouse and rock partridges. This information describes the wildlife found in these areas; it does not guarantee that you will see these animals on any particular outing.

The village and its architecture

Traditional stone and timber houses stand on the hillside in the village. There is also a washhouse. A stroll through Villard-Reymond can include a look at its distinctive mountain architecture, rather than focusing solely on longer trails. The alpine building style and the village’s location are two distinct aspects of the place: one is seen in the houses, the other in the extensive municipal area between the valley and the summit.

Hiking and mountain biking in summer

In summer, numerous hiking trails lead from Villard-Reymond towards Prégentil. One specific option is the marked hike to the Promontoire de Prégentil: it is 5.23 km long, of moderate difficulty and follows an out-and-back route. The start and finish are in the village. In summer, mountain bike trails also lead from Villard-Reymond to Clot de la Selle.

The Chemin du Facteur is a different route: a 5 km mountain bike trail from the Col du Solude above Villard-Reymond to Le Bourg-d’Oisans. It is rated very difficult and is unmarked. On the upper sections, certain stretches are reserved either for pedestrians or for mountain bikers; follow the signs there. The hike to the Promontoire starts and ends in the village, whereas the Chemin du Facteur starts at the pass and ends in Le Bourg-d’Oisans. The distance, difficulty and route descriptions therefore refer to different outings.

Getting there and road conditions

You can reach Villard-Reymond by car from the Lignarre valley via a departmental road that passes through Le Villaret. A balcony road from Villard-Notre-Dame to the Col du Solude is a separate route. It is partly in poor condition, and conditions can change with the seasons. Check the road before setting out. These two road descriptions refer to different routes; they should not be understood as one and the same access road.

Winter routes and local experiences

In winter, snowshoeing and ski touring routes offer ways to experience the snow-covered landscape around Villard-Reymond. This makes planning a winter trip quite different from planning summer hikes and mountain bike outings. You can take your preferred activity into account when choosing when to travel.

Visits to the Ferme du Champ Perché can also be part of your stay: the farm offers tours by prior reservation, and the fields can also be visited. Its products include plant-based liqueurs, including Génépi liqueur, as well as meringues and biscuits flavoured with plants. Availability may vary by season. Every year on 15 August, the Fête du Pain invites visitors to take part in preparing bread and brioche in the old communal bread oven.

Choose accommodation to suit your travel plans

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Villard-Reymond, the season and planned outings can help you get started. The hike to the Promontoire de Prégentil starts and finishes in the village; the Chemin du Facteur, by contrast, runs from the Col du Solude to Le Bourg-d’Oisans. Consider which destinations and activities matter most for your stay before narrowing down your accommodation search.
