Sérézin-de-la-Tour brings together the local history of Quinsonnas and a hiking route that starts in the commune and includes a detour to Étang de Fichailllon. This gives you both cultural history and outdoor activity to consider when planning your trip. The Église de Sérézin de la Tour, with its bronze bell, and the dairy products offered by Pierre Camut add church history and a culinary connection to the mix.

Quinsonnas and church history

The hamlet of Quinsonnas has been documented since 1244. A 1339 survey described Quinsonnas as a fortified settlement. Château de Quinsonnas was in ruins in 1540. In the 17th century, the de Pourroy family owned the Quinsonnas estate and is credited with rebuilding the complex. These dates place the settlement, the château’s condition and the estate’s history in different historical periods.

The Église de Sérézin de la Tour was built between 1845 and 1849. Its bronze bell dates from the 15th century and is listed as a historic monument. The building and the bell therefore belong to different eras: the church dates from the 19th century, while the bell is several centuries older. These two distinct dates provide a clear historical context for the church.

Hiking the Les 2 Châteaux route

Les 2 Châteaux is a specific hiking option: the route is nine kilometres long, rated moderate, has 212 metres of elevation gain and a stated duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes. When planning your day, it is worth considering the duration alongside the distance; the elevation gain and difficulty rating round out these key details. This way, you can take the stated time into account rather than judging the hike by kilometres alone. The route is listed as open from 1 January to 31 December, subject to favourable weather conditions. Check the weather for your planned date.

The route starts in Sérézin-de-la-Tour and includes a detour to Étang de Fichailllon. On the way back, Les 2 Châteaux passes via Carrefour de Quinsonnas, where there are open views of the Alps and the Bugey. Château de Quinsonnas can also be seen from the route. The pond, return leg and views offer different points of interest along the same hike.

Botany and dairy products

Étang de Fichailllon is considered to be of particular botanical interest. Grande Douve, white and yellow water lilies, and Laiche faux-souchet grow there. The detour adds a specific botanical element to the route; the species mentioned offer a precise point of interest for nature enthusiasts.

The Ferme du Pas de Vaches adds another dimension to your trip planning. Pierre Camut offers dairy products there, including cream, butter, fromage blanc and cheese. His Montbéliarde herd is managed according to organic principles. This adds a culinary note alongside the historic sites and the hike, without tying these different interests into a fixed itinerary.
