Savas-Mépin consists of two clearly separate districts: the small village of Savas in the north and the somewhat larger centre of Mépin in the south. The RD502 runs between them. So if you are looking for accommodation in Savas-Mépin, also check which district is named in the address. This will help you focus your search on the two centres rather than relying solely on the shared commune name.

Two centres and directions for getting there

The RD502, formerly the RN502, runs through Savas-Mépin and separates the two centres. The wider road connections can also be understood using two reference points: Savas-Mépin is approximately equidistant from the A7, via the Vienne-Nord junction, and the A43, via the Villefontaine junction. The approximate equal distance is a guide for planning, not a specific journey time.

For bus travel, the Cars Région T35 service serves Savas-Mépin and provides connections to Vienne or La Côte-Saint-André. The timetable provided covers the period from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027; check the appropriate connection for your travel date before setting off. The nearest railway station is in Vienne. TER trains operated by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region run there on the Mâcon-Ville to Vienne and Vienne to Valence routes.

These details offer different options for getting there: bus services connect to Vienne or La Côte-Saint-André, while the nearest railway station is in Vienne. Savas-Mépin is also close to Saint-Jean-de-Bournay.

Walking trails and a cycling route

The “Bois Thomas” route in Savas-Mépin is 5.9 km long. Another walk, “Sur les hauteurs de Savas”, starts at the car park in front of the chapel and passes through Savas. It offers views over the Saint-Jean plain, depending on local conditions. “Le vallon de Vernéa” first leads through a forest and then through a valley along a stream to the Vernéa area. The trail sections and views described depend on conditions on the ground; check these before your outing.

For planning purposes, the “Promenade entre forêts et étangs” cycling loop is on a different scale: it is 59 km long, starts in Villeneuve-de-Marc and passes through Savas-Mépin, Beauvoir-de-Marc, Artas, Culin and Saint-Jean-de-Bournay. This contrasts a 5.9 km route in Savas-Mépin with a much longer cycling route through several towns. The two routes describe different activities and can be planned separately as part of your stay.

History and local produce

The history of the two districts also helps put Savas-Mépin in context. The area lies west of the ancient territory of the Allobroges. Under the Ancien Régime, the parishes of Savas and Mépin were under the authority of the lords of Beauvoir-de-Marc. At the beginning of the revolutionary period, Savas and Mépin initially became independent communes; between 1790 and 1794 they were united into a single commune. In Savas, the bell of Saint-Bonnet Church recalls an earlier chapter: it dates from the 15th century.

Local offerings also include seasonal vegetables grown on the farm by Thierry Janin in Savas-Mépin. Other fruit and vegetables from local producers or from elsewhere are also available. So the produce is not exclusively local. This culinary connection adds another specific aspect to consider when planning your stay, alongside the walking and cycling options.
