Saint-Nizier-Du-Moucherotte can be explored via trails and striking landscape features: the orienteering course is 3 km long and rated easy, the ViaVercors runs through wooded, rolling terrain, and the Moucherotte can be reached by hiking trail. There are also the Trois Pucelles, a small Romanesque church and a permanent disc golf course. Which of these you focus on will shape your outing—from a compact loop to mountain and cultural destinations.
Between orienteering and the ViaVercors
The orienteering course “Il était une fois les sports d’hiver” starts at the tourist office. Its 3 km route takes an average of one hour and is rated easy. Practical details may change; check them before setting out.
The ViaVercors section from Saint-Nizier-Du-Moucherotte to Lans-en-Vercors is 8.9 km long and passes through wooded, hilly terrain. Its rolling surface is suitable for bicycles, horses, strollers, pedestrians and wheelchairs. Conditions may vary seasonally.
The two routes differ both in length and in what they offer: the shorter route has a stated average duration and difficulty rating; the longer ViaVercors section combines woodland and hills with suitability for different modes of travel. You can therefore choose between an easy-rated loop with a stated duration and a longer section with explicitly listed types of users.
Mountain trails and views
The 1,901-metre-high Moucherotte can be reached from Saint-Nizier-Du-Moucherotte via a hiking trail. From there, views extend over the Grenoble Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. This mountain destination offers a different focus from the two routes described above: here, altitude and views take center stage.
The circular hike “Le Moucherotte et le vallon des forges” starts and ends at Les Pucelles in Saint-Nizier-Du-Moucherotte. Before setting out, check the route for possible temporary closures or diversions. This lets you plan the circular hike using its own stated start and finish points, without conflating it with another route.
Rock formations and architecture
Les Trois Pucelles are three rock towers overlooking Grenoble at the entrance to the Vercors. The Église de Saint Nizier du Moucherotte is a small Romanesque church at the foot of this rock formation. Saint-Nizier-Du-Moucherotte thus offers visitors both a striking natural feature and a specific architectural landmark.
The church was restored from 1961 to 1963 under the direction of Père Philippe. This restoration adds a clearly defined historical period to its Romanesque classification. Those interested in architecture and local history will find a different way to experience the destination here than on the hiking trails or at the mountain.
Disc golf at the former ski flying hill
The permanent disc golf course has nine baskets and is intended for introductory play and discovery. It is located on the grounds of the former ski flying hill. The course is free to access; information and instructions are posted on site, and the facility is open daily year-round. Check current access and opening information before your visit.
If you would like to include an activity with a different focus alongside the hiking trails, consider adding the disc golf course as a separate activity. This gives you a range of options to choose from when planning your trip: an easy-rated orienteering course, a longer section of the ViaVercors, hiking destinations with views, rock formations, architecture and a permanent disc golf facility.
