Romagnieu offers several distinct highlights for a stay: supervised swimming and rental activities at O’lac, the Étang des Nénuphars nature area near the town centre, and the GR 65, which passes through the commune. Churches, chapels, houses and former uses add to the picture.

Water and activities at O’lac

Supervised swimming is available at O’lac from 10 am to 7 pm. The site includes a landscaped beach, water features and a diving tower. If you want to swim, plan your visit within these hours.

Stand-up paddleboards and pedal boats each cost €8 per 30 minutes; Rosalies for a tour of the lake also cost €8 per half hour. Mini golf costs €4 per course per person. The tennis court and equipment are available to rent for €10 per hour for two people. Rental options therefore vary both by activity and by whether charges are calculated per time slot, course or hour.

Étang des Nénuphars: nature close to the town centre

Étang des Nénuphars is a nature area of around 14 hectares, close to the town centre of Romagnieu. It has been part of the Isère Department’s ENS network since 2003. The area is open every day throughout the year and is free to access; check current access conditions before your visit.

The pond is a habitat for Vertigo moulinsiana, a snail threatened with extinction in Europe. It lives there among clumps of sedge and in the surrounding waters. As well as its size and location, this nature area offers a specific point of interest for anyone interested in local wildlife.

GR 65 and heritage

The GR 65, the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, runs through the communes of Aoste, Romagnieu and Les Abrets en Dauphiné before entering Isère, then continuing through Saint-Ondras and Valencogne. Romagnieu is therefore part of the named route.

The church in Romagnieu dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. Local heritage also includes the so-called Dauphiné houses. Their thick rammed-earth walls and hipped roofs with scale-pattern tiles give them distinctive architectural features.

The Chapelle Saint Hilaire d’Avaux is a former medieval church dating from before the 12th century. It is surrounded by an old cemetery and houses listed objects. Guided tours are available year-round for groups of 5 to 20 people, by prior reservation; each tour lasts one hour. Plan ahead to make a reservation and confirm the date before you arrive.

In Boutey, worked limestone blocks remain as the foundations of a bridge that linked Augustum (Aoste) with Lemencum (Chambéry). The blocks are particularly visible when water levels are low.

The Forges de la Massotte was a former shovel factory and has now been converted into an inn. This change of use adds a reference to former industry to the area’s architectural and cultural heritage.
