Cordéac offers several ways to explore its architectural and baking history, a themed hiking trail along the Ruisseau des Pavés, a climbing area and a school for ethological riding. When planning the hike, allow for both the time required and the elevation gain; at the climbing crag, the focus is on routes suitable for beginners and rope techniques.

Architecture and baking traditions

The Four des Guions was built in the 19th century in the Cordéac district of the same name. It is one of the old bread ovens in the municipality of Châtel-en-Trièves and is still regularly used by residents for baking. The oven is therefore not just a building, but also part of a communal baking tradition.

Historically, the annual fair held in Les Guions on August 15 included the communal preparation of local pognes: they were baked in the communal oven and sold at the fair. The oven is thus also associated with a specific festival and food culture.

The present-day Église de Cordéac dates from 1863 and has a Latin cross floor plan. Its tympanum bears a bas-relief depicting Saint Martin sharing his cloak. While the Four des Guions is associated with baking and communal use, the church’s architectural form and artwork shape its historic character.

Hiking along the Ruisseau des Pavés

The Ruisseau des Pavés is a small stream hidden in a large forest above Cordéac. The circular route of the same name, Le Ruisseau des Pavés, is 3.5 kilometres long; the stated walking time is two hours, with 316 metres of elevation gain and 316 metres of descent. When planning, consider not only the distance, but also the walking time and elevation change.

Several stops along the hiking trail explain the history of the paved stream, how the waterways are managed, and how the stream came into being. This makes the circular route an active outing with a thematic focus: water and the stream’s history are part of the experience as well as the route itself. When deciding whether this hike is right for you, you can consider both the time involved and your interest in these explanations.

Climbing and ethological riding

The Site d'escalade de Cordéac climbing area comprises two limestone crags suitable for beginners and children. The beginner routes reach heights of up to 15 metres. The climbing area also offers the opportunity to learn top-roping, lead climbing and abseiling. In top-roping, the rope runs through an anchor above the climber; in lead climbing, the rope is clipped into intermediate protection points as the climber ascends. Abseiling is a controlled descent on a rope.

Ferme Léon et Ninette is a school for ethological riding on Chemin du Serre de la Mule in Cordéac. The activities described thus range from a themed hike to climbing techniques and riding. Together with the Four des Guions and the Église de Cordéac, these offer a range of ways to explore Cordéac according to your personal interests.
