Prades can be explored through two themes closely connected to the town: its location in the protected valley of the Parc Naturel Régional des Monts d’Ardèche, and a history in which the church, fortified site and coal mining mark different eras. There is also a market date set for October 2026. When choosing accommodation, it helps to distinguish between these occasions: the landscape and local history shape how visitors see the town, while the market is scheduled for a specific edition.

Valley, hike and views

Prades is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Monts d’Ardèche, in a protected valley. The hike through the Salyndre Valley near Prades passes through a landscape shaped by a river, valleys and agricultural land. At the Calvaire in Prades, there are panoramic views of the surrounding area. The hike highlights the valley and agricultural landscape, while the Calvaire offers views of the surroundings: these provide two different landscape perspectives to choose from when planning.

Church and fortified site

The Église Saint Vincent is a 19th-century Neo-Gothic church. It was built in 1867 on the site of an earlier Romanesque church. The site thus connects the history of the present church building with that of its older predecessor.

Château Montseveny belongs to a different era: the former fortified site was built in the early 17th century for Gilbert Vincenti, an officer in the service of the Lord of Ventadour. It is privately owned. In chronological terms, Château Montseveny predates the Neo-Gothic church and its construction in 1867.

Mining history and Vernet

Coal mining was one of the municipality’s two defining historical industries, alongside agriculture. One visible remnant of this history is the 19th-century Carreau de Champgontier, which is on private property. Together, these connections show mining history both as part of the municipality’s former economy and through a surviving relic.

Prades is also connected with the Vernet mineral water spring, which formerly belonged to the municipality. This historical connection adds another local aspect to the town’s history, without making coal mining appear to be its only economic theme.

A market on a set date

The 2026 edition of the Fête de la pomme, des fruits et légumes d’automne is scheduled for Sunday, 18 October 2026, on the village square in Prades. The market features vendors selling apples, juice, shrubs, and fruit and vegetables. If you are including this date in your travel plans, check the details before travelling; the event date has been specified for this edition.

Choose your stay based on the occasion

If you are looking for a holiday rental in Prades, the focus of your visit can help shape your choice of destination: the scenery, local history or a stay centred around the announced market. For the landscape, there is the protected valley, the hike through the Salyndre Valley and the panoramic views from the Calvaire; the local history includes the church, Château and mining heritage. If you are travelling around the market date, include 18 October 2026 in your plans and check the event details in advance.
