For a trip to Boffres, hiking and architectural history can be considered as two main themes. The Circuit des Châteaux offers a circular route with clearly specified distance, difficulty and duration; the Tour panoramique du Muans is characterized by green forests, landscapes and 360-degree views. There are also buildings with their own historical significance: fortified houses, a castle chapel and the Manoir de Chabret. When looking for accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether you would like to focus on the clearly defined circular route, the panoramic landscape or the history of individual buildings.

Hiking between a circular route and panoramic views

The Circuit des Châteaux is a moderately difficult circular route covering 11.1 kilometers; its stated duration is 3 hours and 30 minutes. It starts at the church in Boffres and ends there as well. This combination gives you both the distance and a specific time frame for planning your day. The route runs through forests and along country paths. Château de Cachard and Château de Tardivon are located along the Circuit.

The Tour panoramique du Muans starts at the church forecourt and the orientation board in Boffres. It runs through green forests and beautiful landscapes and offers 360-degree views. Comparing the two routes, the clearly stated differences lie in their described features: the Circuit is defined by its circular layout, 11.1-kilometer distance, moderate difficulty and duration; the Muans route is characterized by its landscapes and panoramic views. Boffres is also the starting point for numerous hiking trails through wonderful scenery.

Fortified houses and historical connections

Château de Cachard is a fortified house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. Its distinctive round towers and flat roofs define its architecture. The house is located on the Circuit des Châteaux, which starts in Boffres. Château de Tardivon is also on this route: it too is a fortified house and has stood in its hamlet for several centuries.

The Manoir de Chabret was built in 1589. It is inhabited and not open to visitors, but can be admired from the outside. The castle chapel in Boffres dates from the 13th century. Only the choir and apse of the former chapel remain. The choir is the area around the altar; the apse forms the architectural end of the chapel.

At Château des Faugs, the focus is on music history: the composer and musician Vincent d’Indy lived there to compose music.

A seasonal accommodation option

Château des Faugs has been converted into luxurious guest rooms and suites and welcomes guests from May to September. If you are considering staying there, check current availability before your trip.
