Sarrians combines architectural history, winegrowing and different ways to explore the countryside on two wheels. When planning your trip, you can choose a focus: churches and historic estates, a cellar tour with tasting, or one of the cycling routes. The commune is shaped by a fertile plain and a garrigue plateau; agriculture and winegrowing define its character. The activities offer different highlights rather than prescribing a fixed itinerary.

Architectural history and historic estates

The Église Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul is a church whose main construction phases date to the 11th and 14th centuries. It has been listed as a historic monument since 5 December 1973. The two construction phases place the building’s history in different centuries; its listed status adds a legal dimension to this architectural context.

Another way to explore the historic heritage is the Circuit des Châteaux-Sarrians. It follows small country roads past private castles and grand estates whose histories span the Middle Ages to the 18th century. As these are private estates, a visit inside the buildings should not be assumed. The route thus combines a historic itinerary with views of buildings from different periods, without promising access to the interiors.

Wine and farm life

During the guided cellar tour at Domaine Fontaine du Clos, you’ll learn about the journey of the grapes from vineyard to bottle. The tour ends with a personalised tasting of five wines from the range. If you’re planning this tour, check the current booking arrangements and tasting format in advance; both may change.

The Explorateur de la ferme activity at Ferme Pédagogique de R'oiselet offers a different glimpse into agricultural life. Activities include picking fruit, caring for animals and discovering life on the farm. Unlike the cellar tour, which follows the grapes’ journey to the bottle, this activity focuses on various tasks around a farm. You can choose between two different themes: winemaking and tasting, or hands-on insights into everyday farm life.

Cycling routes through varied landscapes

The 45 km cycling loop runs entirely within Sarrians. It passes through the plain and over the garrigue plateau, as well as through the commune’s vineyards and wine estates, all of which belong to the Vacqueyras appellation. A different type of route is the approximately 20 km mountain biking trail: for much of its length, it follows the banks of the Canal Sainte Marie, a branch of the Canal de Carpentras that runs through Sarrians. The two routes therefore differ in length, cycling style and the landscapes they pass through.

Other options complement these two routes: the cycling club La Roue d'Or offers the chance to discover two signposted cycling loops in Sarrians. Four more cycling routes can also be tried from Sarrians railway station. To choose, you can use the specific differences described: a loop or a mountain biking trail, the plain and garrigue, or a route along a canal. Agriculture and winegrowing provide a shared local backdrop, linking the routes through the vineyards with a visit to Domaine Fontaine du Clos.
