The Pont-aqueduc des Cinq-Cantons brings Loriol-du-Comtat’s cultural heritage to life: the structure is part of the Canal de Carpentras and is located in the town. Other local themes range from historic architecture and landscapes to wine, saffron and cycling routes. When looking for a hotel in Loriol-du-Comtat, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay.

A protected structure on the Canal de Carpentras

The Pont-aqueduc des Cinq-Cantons spans a wide depression to connect to the main branch of the Canal de Carpentras. It is 11 metres high and longer than the Galas Bridge, which measures 253 metres. Fully protected as a historic monument, the Pont-aqueduc was listed by decree on 6 November 2001. Its function, dimensions and protected status give the structure a clear place in history.

Châteaux and a campanile from different periods

The Château de Loriol dates from the 18th century. Château Talaud, also built in the 18th century, stands in the heart of the Comtat Venaissin; it was the former residence of the Marquis Grille d’Estoublon. The two buildings therefore represent different historical connections: one bears the town’s name, while the other is linked to a former residence associated with a person known by name.

The church associated with the Campanile de Loriol du Comtat is older: its construction is dated to around the 10th or 11th century. The church has two bell towers, one of which is a square campanile, or square bell tower. Those interested in architectural history can thus explore buildings from markedly different periods.

Hills, former marshlands and mulberry trees

The area around Loriol-du-Comtat includes hills and former marshlands. Monks from Mazan drained a large part of these marshlands. Old mulberry trees are also part of local history: they are regarded as witnesses to the commune and its silkworm culture. The landscape and trees thus offer two different insights into the area’s history—its former terrain and its silk culture.

Two cycling routes, different landmarks

The Via Venaissia passes the renovated Loriol-du-Comtat railway station. The station is one of the stops to discover along the route. The Tour du Comtat Venaissin cycle route offers a different point of reference: its stage from Carpentras to Bédoin passes through Loriol-du-Comtat. On the Via Venaissia, the station is a landmark along the route; on the Tour du Comtat Venaissin, it is the course of a named stage. Check the access arrangements for the Via Venaissia and the station before setting out. For the Tour du Comtat Venaissin, take current signage and route conditions into account.

Wine and saffron

At Château Talaud, you can taste Domaine Château Talaud wines with AOC Ventoux designation. Confirm availability before your visit. Safre & Safran invites visitors to experience saffron cultivation at its “événements terroir”; check the participation details in advance. The producer has been growing natural saffron (Crocus sativus) since 2012. Its products are available at the Espace terroir in Carpentras and at Gigondas la Cave. If you plan to visit either outlet, check product availability beforehand.
