The Roman oppidum of Castellas and the medieval Église Saint-Antoine give Lagarde-Pareol a distinct cultural and historical character. At the same time, part of the town lies in the Massif d'Uchaux, with hiking trails and panoramic views. Music events and winegrowing round out these highlights. If you choose a destination based on its themes, you can weigh up history, nature, events and wine interests here.

Hills, forests and panoramas

Lagarde-Pareol lies partly in the Massif d'Uchaux. There are numerous viewpoints and hiking trails through hills, valleys, plateaus and pine forests; the local fauna and flora are also diverse. From the village, you can enjoy views of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail.

For nature lovers, hiking trails and views are two distinct but complementary highlights. The trails pass through several types of terrain, while the views take in two named landmarks. When choosing your destination, you can therefore consider both time spent on hiking trails and panoramic views.

Castellas and the Église Saint-Antoine

The Roman oppidum, now called Castellas, is located at the highest point of the village. Confirmed burials and pottery finds are associated with it. The Église Saint-Antoine offers another way to explore the area's history: the medieval church was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The church's art history includes an 18th-century gilded plaster Madonna and the 19th-century painting “Le rosaire.” A heritage conservation project helped fund part of the restoration work on each piece. Together with the church's rebuilding history, these two artworks show that its story spans several centuries.

Music events with different focuses

The Fête de la Musique has been held on the second Saturday in June since 2001. Groups perform in the courtyards of houses and in the village streets. The musical program spans classical music, singing, choral music, jazz, rock and blues. The program may vary from one edition to the next; check the exact date and current program before your trip.

The Fête Irlandaise has a different focus. Its program includes Irish music and singing, a Gaelic dance, Celtic-inspired games, and Celtic stories and legends. Individual editions of this event may also vary. In comparison, the Fête de la Musique centers on a broad mix of musical styles, while the Fête Irlandaise features an Irish-Celtic program.

Winegrowing and tours

The landscape of Lagarde-Pareol is characterized by a mix of forests and vineyards belonging to the well-known Côtes-du-Rhône appellation. Several vineyards are classified under the AOC, the AOC Villages and the Massif d'Uchaux appellation. Winegrowing is therefore part of both the landscape and the local designations of origin.

The Domaine Château de Fonsalette offers cellar tours and wine tastings. Check for available dates before making your plans. Wine lovers can enjoy a concrete opportunity to tour and taste, alongside views of the wine country.
