Heritage, crafts and nature offer different ways to experience Ollioules. Historic sites and museums sit alongside creative activities and a municipal forest that invites you to hike and observe nature. For a short visit, it helps to decide in advance whether you are mainly interested in local history, crafts or spending time outdoors.

Heritage and Museums in Ollioules

The Église Saint-Laurent has been listed as a historic monument since 1982. The Maison du Patrimoine is housed in an exceptional private mansion dating from the 17th century at 20 Rue Gambetta. Across seven rooms, it presents the heritage history of the Toulon Provence Méditerranée area. The exceptional quality of its decorations led to the building being listed as a historic monument.

The Musée Bottin-Layet focuses on a section of the medieval town wall: the museum was built around this section, which was discovered in situ during renovation work. The Musée de la Fleur d’Ollioules, together with the Jardin des Heures, is in the town centre on the Promenade de la Reppe. It covers the history of flower growing in Ollioules from the mid-19th century to the present day.

The Musée de l’Ecole Publique is located in the former Sainte-Geneviève school. Its reconstructed rooms include a classroom and a former Salle d’asile, a precursor to the kindergarten. A different collection awaits you at the Musée de la Clef et de la Serrure: it contains several hundred keys dating from the 1st century to the present day. Together, these cultural offerings span historic buildings and the town wall, school history and a collection with a long time span.

Crafts and Local Traditions

Les Ateliers d’Ollioules brings together more than 40 workshops run by craftspeople and creative professionals. In addition, more than 15 workshops in Ollioules offer hands-on introductions to specialist crafts. Participating workshops and activities may change, so check the current programme if you are planning to attend a particular course.

Mano X Alto has a 44 m² ceramics workshop in the former Chapel of the Pénitents, which dates from 1667. The centre also includes a creative space open to everyone and a programme of public events. As the public programme may change, it is worth checking specific dates in advance. Another local tradition can be found at the Jonquier nougat factory: five generations have followed one another there since 1885. Visitors can tour the factory during the production months; confirm production and visiting times before your trip.

Châteauvallon-Scène Nationale also offers a cultural focus, with a changing programme of individual events. The venue presents a multidisciplinary programme of dance, theatre, music and cinema throughout the year and was awarded the “Scène Nationale” label in 2015. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular performance, check the current programme dates.

Forest, Water and Views

The Ollioules municipal forest is designated as a Natura 2000 site and is home to plant and animal species typical of Mediterranean forests. It offers opportunities for hiking and observing nature. Seasonal access restrictions may apply, so check the current conditions before setting out.

The Canal des Arrosants tells the story of the link between water and agriculture: since the 15th century, it has enabled farming and horticulture to develop. It served both as a source of hydraulic power for mills and to irrigate crops. A walk along the canal, combined with a visit to the Moulin de Palisson, offers a tangible way to explore this theme. If you would rather plan a climb, you can hike up the hill to the medieval fortress of Ollioules; the climb offers impressive views.

Plan Your Visit and Getting Around

The Fête de l’Olivier is a recurring event; its 34th edition took place in 2025. If you are planning a future visit, check the dates of upcoming events separately. Bus services between Toulon and Ollioules are operated by Réseau Mistral on routes 12 and 11B. As bus services may change, check the latest information before travelling.
