Comps-Sur-Artuby combines cultural history with several named trails. Chapels, a bridge and collections of objects from everyday life in the past give your stay a range of different focal points. For planning your time, it helps to distinguish between them: one circular trail has a published distance and walking time; for some visits, you should arrange an appointment or check opening times in advance.

Chapels, Bridge and Museum

The Chapelle Saint-André is a former Templar chapel and was classified as a Monument historique on 16 November 1891. It stands on a rock on the hillside at an altitude of 963 metres and overlooks the village. The Chapelle Saint-Didier and the Pont de la Souche are also listed as Monuments historiques: Saint-Didier by decree of 27 January 1926, and the bridge by decree of 23 January 1990. The sites thus differ both in their history and in the dates of their heritage-protection designations.

If you would like to explore objects from everyday life in the past as well as chapels and the bridge, the Petit Musée Communal features a range of collections on this subject. Visits are arranged by contacting the town hall of Comps-Sur-Artuby. Confirm the appointment and opening times before your visit. The Médiévales de Comps-sur-Artuby may also be a reason to choose your travel dates: they take place every two years. Check the specific event dates before your trip.

Hiking with a Specific Time Frame

The Sentier des Prés de Laure is a very easy 4.5-kilometre circular trail with a walking time of about two hours. This gives you a specific time estimate for this hike, without assuming an exact duration for your entire outing. Check trail conditions before setting out. The path combines the hike with an archaeological perspective: it invites you to follow the traces of prehistoric inhabitants in the Jabron Valley across more than 50,000 years of history. The account is based on archaeological discoveries that began in 2013.

Another connection between trails is described by the final section of Le tour de l’Artuby: after crossing the Artuby at the Pont de la Souche, the route reaches Comps-Sur-Artuby. The map of Comps-Sur-Artuby also includes the Circuit des chapelles walking route. Keys for access to the chapels can be borrowed on presentation of an identity document. Check in advance whether this arrangement is still in place.

Plan Your Visits

If your travel window is limited, the Sentier des Prés de Laure offers the clearest time reference: its distance and approximate walking time are provided. For a museum visit, check the appointment and opening times; for the Médiévales, confirm the specific event date.
