Nestled between the Frayère and Siagne rivers, Auribeau-Sur-Siagne is a village perched on a hill. The medieval rocky heights on which the village was built feature a panoramic information board about the geography of the Pays Grassois. If you want to get your bearings in the surrounding area, this provides a concrete reference point for the region’s landscape. The village and its paths offer further perspectives on history and nature.
Gateways, church and pilgrimage history
The old village preserves two defensive gateways: Soutran and Soubran. The Portail Soubran is a fortified gate made of dressed stone dating from the 16th century, providing access to the old village. The parish church of Auribeau-Sur-Siagne was built between 1717 and 1722. This makes it possible to compare two distinct periods of construction: the gate dates from the 16th century, while the church dates from the early 18th century.
Another historical landmark is the Notre-Dame-de-Valcluse sanctuary, a pilgrimage site since the 12th century. It is set in a shady location beside the Saint-Antoine river and has a picnic area. The long pilgrimage tradition and riverside setting combine here to create a different focus from the architectural history of the old village.
Walks and riverbanks
The trails offer different details to help you plan. The easy Circuit de l’Apier begins and ends at the Place Léon Mallet car park in Auribeau-Sur-Siagne. Les Balcons de la Siagne is a semi-urban hike that also starts in Auribeau-Sur-Siagne. It is 8.5 kilometres long, rated moderate, and has an estimated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. The two routes offer different things to consider when planning your day: the Circuit is easy and starts and ends at the same point, while the Balcons provide more specific information on distance, difficulty and estimated duration.
There are walks along shady stretches of the Siagne riverbanks. The waterways also include the tributaries Frayère d’Auribeau and Vallon du Vivier. Hiking, fishing and swimming are among the outdoor activities in Auribeau-Sur-Siagne. The riverside paths and hiking routes offer different ways to spend time in the landscape.
