Saint-Léger-Les-Mélèzes offers several different ways to discover the area: a panorama from Cuchon, the Sentier découverte trail, historic buildings and seasonal snow activities. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether the landscape, discovering the village, local history or winter sports should be the deciding factor. The municipality is located in the peripheral zone of Parc national des Écrins; nature, culture and snow activities therefore offer different possible focuses for a stay.

Panorama from Cuchon

The easily accessible summit of Cuchon offers panoramic views across the entire Champsaur, Petite Autane, Grande Autane and the plain of Ancelle. The view thus combines a broad regional overview with several specific landmarks. Cuchon provides a scenic highlight; the Sentier découverte, by contrast, focuses on exploring the village thematically. This difference is useful when choosing between a viewpoint and an activity focused on the area for your stay.

Sentier découverte: a themed trail through the village

The Sentier découverte is a themed walking trail 1.7 km long with an elevation gain of 213 m; it starts in Saint-Léger-Les-Mélèzes. Information panels and the character Miaouze help families discover the village. The trail thus combines exercise with information focused on the area. For planning, consider the trail length and elevation gain separately: they describe different aspects of the route. Check seasonal access conditions for the Sentier découverte before your trip.

The château and church history

The Château de Saint-Léger-Les-Mélèzes is visible from the road, is privately owned and is not open to the public. Its perimeter wall and corner towers are among its architectural features; since 13 January 1997, the château has been listed as a historic monument in the supplementary register of historic monuments. Another specific trace of local history can be found in the church: its bell tower houses a bell dating from 1482 that comes from the sanctuary. The château and the bell offer different points of interest: the former is notable for its architecture and monument status, while the latter is a dated object with a recorded origin.

Seasonal snow activities

Snow activities range from guided experiences to facilities. ESF Saint-Léger-Les-Mélèzes offers instruction and guided experiences for skiing, snowboarding, off-piste skiing, hiking and handiski. Check the program before booking to make sure the instruction offered matches your plans. The snowpark has a beginner and an advanced line, as well as jumps, rails and a Big Air. You can also practise on a Big Air Bag in Saint-Léger-Les-Mélèzes, which is open to everyone. The snowtubing track is designed for four to six people at a time; there is also a baby slope for children aged four and up. The information describes these two activities differently: snowtubing by group size, and the baby slope by age. As the snow facilities are seasonal, check whether they are currently open before your trip.
