In La Bâtie-Neuve, hiking and mountain biking trails lead from the town center up to the mountain peaks. There is also the Balade de Montreviol circular hike, trails in the Forêt du Sapet and traces of local history. You can choose between different focuses: a named route, hiking trails in the forest, or culture and art in town. Trail conditions may vary.

Hiking between the town center and the mountain peaks

The Balade de Montreviol starts in La Bâtie-Neuve and is a moderate 6.9-kilometer circular hike. Its landscape includes forests and pastures, as well as wide trails and steep paths. The route offers views of the Gapençais basin, the mountains of Charance and Céüse, Mont Colombis and the Chapeau de Napoléon. Views and trail conditions may vary.

Forest trails and protected area

The Forêt du Sapet has several hiking trails open to everyone. A puzzle walk starts at the Maison forestière du Sapet in La Bâtie-Neuve. Access and trail conditions depend on the weather and the season; check conditions before setting out.

The northwestern part of the Forêt domaniale du Sapet is part of the Natura 2000 network’s “Piolit-Pic de Chabrières” site. This connects the forest theme with a specific protected-area designation. The hiking trails and Natura 2000 designation are different aspects of the Forêt du Sapet: the designation applies to its northwestern part.

Art and architectural history

The Parcours du Lézard connects local heritage with artistic installations. These include frescoes, mosaic benches and photographs. The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace also offers a point of reference for local history: it served as the parish church until 1707. The present-day chapel dates from the 16th century and replaced an older church.

The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace overlooks the old cemetery and was renovated in 2009. Services are held there for funerals; this use may change. Its history thus includes both its former role as a parish church and its present-day chapel, as well as its location above the cemetery.

Walking path and archaeological heritage

A short path follows the route of the medieval fortification. Along the way, the gardens of the houses on Grande Rue open up; the path makes for a peaceful walk. This offers a different perspective on local heritage from the artistic installations of the Parcours du Lézard.

A dolmen is located on private land, which is not open to visitors. In 2009, the municipality had a reconstruction built at the roundabout by the Collège. Those interested in archaeological heritage can distinguish between the dolmen itself and the publicly located reconstruction without visiting the private site.

Local products and theater

The Confiturerie Jean-Marc CHATELAIN makes jams, compotes, juices, chutneys and coulis in La Bâtie-Neuve. The offering includes product tastings and a boutique. As opening arrangements may change, check them before visiting.

Festi’Théâtre, the theater festival of La Bâtie-Neuve, was scheduled for September 2026 in Hall No. 750. A play was planned for each evening, including performances for young audiences. Alongside the hiking and cultural attractions, this program item, tied to a specific date, offers another facet of the town.
