Roquevaire offers several distinct highlights for a stay: walks along the Huveaune, art and history, and hikes to viewpoints. Those who enjoy walking by the water will find a different focus here from a summit hike or a cultural visit that requires an appointment.

Outdoors: riverside path, summit and climbing area

A footpath along the banks of the Huveaune invites visitors to stroll in Roquevaire and discover the area’s natural and historical heritage. Lascours is a starting point for hikes to the summit of Garlaban. From up there, views stretch across Marseille, Cap Canaille, Sainte-Victoire, and the Sainte-Baume and Étoile ranges.

The Massif de Bassan offers another high-altitude destination: it includes the 717-metre-high TĂŞte de Roussargues, from which hikers can enjoy a magnificent view. There are different types of outings to choose from: the riverside path follows the Huveaune, while hikes from Lascours and to the TĂŞte de Roussargues take in summits and viewpoints.

The Grand Vallon climbing area near Roquevaire is a major climbing site in the Garlaban. All difficulty levels are accessible there; however, the climbing sectors are widely separated, and seasonal restrictions may apply. When planning, therefore, consider not only the desired difficulty level but also the separation of the sectors and possible seasonal restrictions.

Cultural sites and visits by appointment

The Pont Bonaparte spans the Huveaune and dates back to the 16th century. The tourist route “Les 7 Merveilles de Roquevaire” offers a different way to discover the town’s sights: it connects seven sites in Roquevaire and is freely accessible. Information panels are located along the route.

The Musée René Verrier displays Gallo-Roman remains, including a sarcophagus and a statue. The collection also includes numerous everyday objects and tools collected over the years. Visits must be arranged by appointment; the museum is also open on the Saturday of the European Heritage Days. Anyone planning a visit to the museum should take this access information into account.

Another artistic landmark is the facade of “La Maison de Celle qui peint” in Roquevaire, a work of art in public space. Danielle Jacqui transformed her home into a living museum of Art Brut. Individual visits are possible by appointment. The two visits therefore also differ in how they need to be planned: an appointment is required for the museum, and individual visits to the Maison must also be arranged in advance.

Festivals and special experiences

The Huveaunades take place in June in Roquevaire as part of the Fête de l’Huveaune. Numerous events are held near the Huveaune and on the Cours Négrel Féraud; exact dates may vary. The Festival de Théâtre à Lascours takes place every year in late June or early July. In September or October, the Festival de Roquevaire is held in the parish church of Saint-Vincent; it has taken place every year since 1997.

The annual Festival of Bees and Honey also offers its own distinctive highlight. The programme includes beekeeping demonstrations, tastings and children’s workshops; the date varies from year to year. To learn about saffron cultivation, Terre de Safran – Céline Ceccaldi in Roquevaire offers discovery visits to its saffron farm. In 2026, these visits are available by appointment. Check the access information again before travelling.
