Mimet offers a variety of reasons to visit: views of mountain ranges and Marseille, trails with striking landscapes, a walk that can be enjoyed year-round, and a trail event in May. The Maison de la Mémoire also offers a focus on cultural history, with early finds and objects from everyday life. When planning your trip, it helps to consider whether you are mainly interested in the landscape, the sporting event, or local history.

Panoramas and striking landscapes

The route to Tête du Grand Puech offers views of Mimet, the Sainte-Baume massif, the Étoile range, Sainte-Victoire, and the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. The panorama therefore extends from the village itself across several named mountain ranges to the Alps. If you choose a route based on its views, this combination of nearby and distant vistas is a useful point of reference.

From the northern section of the route at Baou Traouqua, the view takes in Marseille, the port of Marseille, and the Frioul Islands. This gives you two distinct kinds of panorama: mountain ranges and Alpine peaks on the route to Tête du Grand Puech, and the city, port, and islands at Baou Traouqua. This is a clear distinction to keep in mind when choosing a route for its views.

The Piste du Dragon follows a broad ridge path with views of the Étoile range, as well as a forest path covered in Mediterranean vegetation. The ridge path and forest path offer different landscape features. Pilon du Roy is a widely recognizable, tooth-shaped rock formation east of the summit of the Étoile; its north face on the Mimet side reaches 60 meters.

A walk or a trail event

The Glacière de Mimet is the destination for a walk that can be enjoyed year-round at the foot of the village, and is located on a permanently cool north-facing slope. Seasonal restrictions on forest access may apply to other areas of the massif.

Another reason to visit is the Trail de Mimet. It takes place every year in May and starts in the village, heading toward the Étoile massif. The elite course covers 45 kilometers with 2,600 meters of elevation gain. These figures put the trail on a different scale from the walk to the Glacière. If you are planning your trip around the trail, check the specific dates and program for your intended travel year.

Local history at the Maison de la Mémoire

The Maison de la Mémoire is housed in a restored former stable dating from the 11th century. It preserves early finds from the Celtic-Ligurian oppidum of la Teste de l’Ost, as well as objects from everyday life in Mimet in the 19th and 20th centuries. Archaeological finds are thus displayed alongside everyday objects from two more recent centuries—a different focus from the panoramic routes and landscapes. Individual exhibits may change. Check the opening arrangements before your visit.
