In Lançon-de-Provence, a variety of discoveries await: two weekly markets, chapels steeped in history and paths through the countryside. When planning your visit, choose based on what interests you most—a morning at the market, architecture and local history, or a walk outdoors.

Market Days and Regional Produce

The Tuesday market takes place every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Place du Champ de Mars. Products on offer include fruit and vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, cheese and honey. The Saturday producers’ market is also held in this square: it runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and focuses on regional products sold through a short supply chain, directly from producers to consumers. This gives you two different mornings to choose from for a market visit. Check the times locally before you travel.

Wine and Local Discoveries

Château Virant offers self-guided tours of the estate, ending with a tasting. As this is a visitor experience offered by the venue, check the current visiting arrangements before your visit. Château Virant is also home to the Musée de la Vigne et de l’Olivier. It displays old tools and a film, and a sensory tour introduces visitors to the discovery of wine. This offers a way to explore the world of wine not only through a tasting, but also through objects and a specially designed interpretation.

Chapels and Local History

The Chapelle Saint Symphorien dates from the 18th century and is dedicated to Saint Symphorian, the village’s patron saint. The Chapelle Saint-Cyr offers a different perspective on architectural history: this Romanesque chapel has a single nave and two side chapels. It dates from the late 11th century and was once the center of the old village.

Distinct from these is the Eglise Saint Cyr et Sainte Julitte. It was built during the 14th century on a rocky outcrop in the town center, within the third line of fortifications. The Pigeonnier de la Goiranne is another reminder of the history of local buildings: this 18th-century dovecote lies below the village and forms part of an agricultural estate. Together, the buildings represent different periods and functions, from religious structures to part of a working farm.

Another trace of the past is Coudounèu, an archaeological site on a rocky outcrop dating from the late 5th century BC. A stone enclosure protects the site. The place thus combines a tangible connection to the landscape with an archaeological history reaching far back in time.

Hiking and Climbing

The Crête de Costelongue is an easy circular hike starting from Lançon-Provence. The route is 7.3 kilometers long and takes two hours. It follows a ridge amid thyme and rosemary, with panoramic views of the Massif de la Sainte-Victoire. On the return, the trail passes below the village between olive trees and pine forest. The distance and duration make it easier to set aside time for this hike; check local conditions before setting out.

Another kind of walk follows the historic trail through the vineyards and olive groves of Château Virant to the Virant rock. The climb takes 30 minutes and follows an old stone staircase. The Virant rock is also a recognized climbing site in Provence, with routes for beginners and advanced climbers. As climbing access and safety conditions can change, check them before climbing. This offers two different ways to explore the rock: climbing the historic staircase and climbing on designated routes.
