La Destrousse brings together a clearly identified cultural site, walking trails, a confluence of valleys, and opportunities to explore agricultural produce and wine. The Church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens marks an early chapter in the town’s history and houses a painting protected as a historic monument. There is also a path to a viewpoint, a walking trail to the Chapelle Sainte-Croix, and opportunities to buy fresh produce directly or taste wine. This gives you several different ways to plan your trip: art and history, scenery, or local produce. You can shape your stay around any of these interests.
Church and protected artwork
The Church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens is a specific point of reference for exploring the town’s history. It houses the painting “Saint Pierre accueillant saint Aspren au paradis en présence de sainte Claire, sainte Candide, saint Augustin et d'autres saints” (“Saint Peter Welcoming Saint Aspren into Paradise in the Presence of Saint Clare, Saint Candide, Saint Augustine and Other Saints”). Its title describes Peter welcoming Aspren into Paradise, together with Clare, Candide, Augustine and other saints. The work is classified as a protected historic monument; it was granted this status on 6 September 1938. A chapel dedicated to Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens was built on the site of today’s church in 1363. The two dates mark different things: 1363 marks the construction of the chapel, while 1938 marks the painting’s protected status. At this same church, you can therefore encounter both an early chapter of building history and a specifically named work of art with its own history of protection.
Scenery and walking trails
The landscape can also be explored through clearly identified destinations. La Destrousse lies at the confluence of the Merlançon and Pégoulière valleys. The Chemin de la Carreirade de Pierresca leads from the church to a viewpoint overlooking the Massifs de Bassan and Pic de Bertagne. Another walking trail leads east to the Chapelle Sainte-Croix. The first route thus connects the church with a viewpoint; the second is identified by its easterly direction and the chapel as its destination. The choice is clear: take in views of the landscape or walk to the Chapelle Sainte-Croix.
Produce and wine
Ferme du Tourtaret produces organic vegetables. Visitors can also buy fresh produce directly there; the selection may vary. If you are visiting for a particular product, it is best to check current availability. Wine tastings are offered at Les Vignerons du Garlaban; tasting arrangements may change. The cooperative works with the Grenache, Syrah and Rolle grape varieties. The reasons to visit therefore differ: at the farm, the focus is on buying fresh produce directly, while at Les Vignerons, it is on wine tasting. Check the arrangements in advance if the tasting is an important part of your visit.
