Cadolive brings together tangible traces of local history and walking and hiking trails in the surrounding pine forests. There are also horse-riding options, ranging from lessons in Cadolive to multi-day trips in Provence and Haute-Provence. This distinction can help you plan your stay: it shows whether you would rather focus on local sites and trails or on an activity with a regional scope.

Local history: water, lime kilns and a church

The former washhouse in Cadolive was restored in 2007. It was fed by a natural spring whose source lies in the heights above the village. The building and spring thus connect a former water-supply site with the higher-lying surroundings. Remains of lime kilns can be seen in the Saint Joseph district below La Sarriée; they provide a tangible link to the mining history. Saint Lazare Church was completely renovated and inaugurated on October 23, 2011. The washhouse, lime kilns and church each highlight a different aspect: water supply, mining and religious heritage. The washhouse restoration in 2007 and the church’s inauguration in 2011 mark different stages in Cadolive’s local history.

Trails and mining history

The pine forests around Cadolive contain paths and trails for walking and hiking. A hike to Le Mont Julien and the Grotte des Fées leads through the hills of Cadolive; along this route, visitors can trace the area’s mining history. Check access and trail conditions before setting out. If mining is your focus, choose between the remains of the lime kilns, which can be visited in the Saint Joseph district, and a hike through the hills to Le Mont Julien and the Grotte des Fées.

January event and horse-riding options

Cadolive hosts the Trail de la Galinette every January. If you want to plan your trip around this event, check the date of that year’s edition in advance.

La Provence Ă  Cheval offers horse-riding trips in Provence and Haute-Provence lasting from two to seven days; non-members can also take part. During school holidays, it offers courses for children and adults, from beginners to advanced riders; non-members can join these courses too. The provider also offers horse-riding lessons in Cadolive. This gives you three different options for planning your time: multi-day trips, courses held during school holidays and lessons locally. Check the current booking conditions, course dates and availability of lessons in advance.
