Saint-Martin-du-Var can be explored from two perspectives: wooded hills and valleys on one hand, village scenes, squares, and churches on the other. There are also walks with views of the confluence of the Var and Estéron, as well as a mountain biking route that starts in the village. If you are planning an overnight stay, these differences can help you choose your focus: landscape, village views, or cultural sites.

Wooded Hills and Views

The wooded hills of Saint-Martin-du-Var are cut through by valleys. The Récastron valley runs through these hills, giving the landscape a distinct geographical feature. Walks along the slopes offer views of the confluence of the Var and Estéron, between waterways and open landscapes. If you want to experience the area primarily through its scenery, there are two distinct perspectives here: the wooded hills and the Récastron valley, and the views of the two rivers.

Saint-Martin-du-Var is one of the municipalities within the Parc Naturel Départemental des Rives du Var. The park is open to visitors daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April 1 to October 31, and daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from November 1 to March 31. Before your visit, check the current park boundaries and rules, as well as seasonal opening hours; temporary closures are possible.

Village, Squares, and Religious Buildings

The old village is a designated attraction. The two main squares are also notable features of the village: one dates from the 18th century, the other from the 19th. Their dates thus span two centuries. The Saint-Roch church, with its 17th-century paintings, is another cultural landmark and one of Saint-Martin-du-Var’s attractions.

The Notre-Dame del Bosc chapel offers a different perspective. It is located in the heights above Saint-Martin-du-Var and was built in a simple Romanesque style. Together with the Saint-Roch church and the old village, it offers another way to explore the local heritage, while the two squares stand out in particular for their different dates of origin. If you want to focus your trip on cultural sites and village scenery, these details can help you choose your destination.

Village Scenes in Mosaic and on Lava Stone Tiles

A version of the « cavalier » plan, made from ceramic mosaic, has been displayed on the town hall façade since April 27, 2018. It focuses on the village center. The mosaic is a distinct feature of the village, different from views of the surrounding landscape.

Another historical village trail was created during the 2017 Heritage Days. Ten old views of the village, reproduced from postcards dating from the beginning of the last century, were installed on façades on enamelled lava stone tiles. This created a trail around Place de l’Église and Place Maiffredi. The year and occasion place this project in its historical context; it adds a distinctive way of depicting earlier village scenes in the streetscape to the history of the village.

Walks, Mountain Biking, and Getting There

Walks along the slopes and the Circuit de la Roquette mountain biking route offer different ways to experience the landscape. The Circuit is a mountain biking route that starts in Saint-Martin-du-Var at an elevation of 110 meters. The starting elevation gives you a specific point of departure, while the walks are distinguished above all by their views of the Var and Estéron.

From Nice Airport, it is 20 kilometers to Saint-Martin-du-Var through the Var valley along the RM 6202. For your travel date, it is advisable to check directions and road conditions, as they may change. When choosing an overnight stay, you can tailor your trip to your interests: the historic village and its buildings, walks with river views, or the starting point of a mountain biking route. This keeps the focus on choosing a destination, without turning the different activities into a fixed itinerary.
