Roquebillière lies at an altitude of 600 metres in the Vésubie Valley, at the gateway to the Parc national du Mercantour. Its thermal traditions date back to Roman antiquity, while a former industrial district, a gallery and historic buildings tell different chapters of the village’s story. This gives you more than one focus for planning your trip: you can explore thermal facilities and swimming as well as village history, art and outdoor activities.
Thermal Centre and Biological Pool
In Berthemont-les-Bains, a hamlet in the municipality of Roquebillière, you’ll find a thermal centre offering spa treatments and wellness facilities. The new centre replaced the former thermal baths in July 2016. As access is seasonal, check the conditions for your visit before travelling.
Another swimming option is the Bassin biologique de Roquebillière. It is located below the village in a sports and leisure area and covers 1,350 m². The first biological pool in the département to open for swimming, it is cleaned using biofiltration, without chlorine or chemical treatment. It welcomes many visitors every summer. Roquebillière therefore offers two distinct options: a thermal centre with spa treatments and wellness facilities, and a biologically filtered pool for swimming.
Traces of Industry, Art and History
La Bourgade was Roquebillière’s former industrial district. It was home to a forge, oil and grain mills, a sawmill and the municipality’s first power station. A diversion channel from the Vésubie powered these facilities. The district’s history thus links different forms of craftsmanship and production with the use of the channel.
A contemporary cultural venue is the Galerie d'Arts vésubiens. It has been present in the village since 2010 and is run by an artists’ collective from the valley. Around thirty artists with ties to the Vésubie Valley belong to the collective, which presents changing exhibitions throughout the year. Its programme gives art lovers another point of interest alongside the historic buildings.
The Église Saint-Michel-de-Gast was built in the early 16th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 22 November 1994. The Fort Maginot du Gordolon comprises three combat casemates. The Fort de Gordolon is part of the Maginot Line; visits are possible on selected dates by reservation. If you’re planning a visit, check the dates and reservation requirements in advance.
Exploring the Village on Foot and by Bike
There are cycling and mountain biking routes around Roquebillière. Walking routes can be found in the village and nearby; suitable topoguides are available from the information office. This lets you consider a range of outdoor activities during your stay, without every outing needing to have the same focus. At My Adventure – Roquebillière, an exploration treasure hunt revolves around the secrets of an ancient stele.
For a visit to the village, the Petit Marché Rural offers a clearly defined opportunity: in the 2026 season, it takes place on Tuesday mornings in the village square from mid-March to mid-December. Local craftspeople and producers from the valleys exhibit there throughout the morning. Check the dates again for future trips.
The bus service is also linked to the thermal centre’s operating season. From 30 March to 31 October 2026, route 94 runs towards Roquebillière and the thermal centre in Berthemont-les-Bains only while the centre is open. If you’re travelling at a later date, check the route’s seasonal schedule again.
