Colomars can be explored through a wide range of themes: a panorama from the foothills, geological and botanical features, a hiking section of the GR®51, and the town’s religious and craft history. Olive growing is also part of its character. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between a short independent visit to the viewpoint, a hike ending at La Manda, and the cultural and production-related sites.

Landscape and Trails

The Point de vue de Colomars viewpoint is on a promontory and offers views across the plain and hills to the highest peaks. An individual visit takes an average of five minutes. This time estimate applies to the viewpoint itself; allow separate time for hiking the GR®51. The two details answer different questions: how long a visit to the panorama takes, and where the hiking section ends.

The many so-called Vallons obscurs in Colomars are home to exceptional geological and botanical reserves and are designated as a Natura 2000 site. The view from the promontory and the Vallons offer different kinds of natural interest: a panorama across the plain, hills and peaks in one case, and geological and botanical features in the other. If you are deciding which aspect of nature matters most to you on your trip, this distinction can help you choose your focus.

A section of the GR®51, rehabilitated by the département, takes hikers to its endpoint at La Manda. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Sports and Recreation

The Espace de Loisirs du Fort Casal sports and recreation complex covers 9,000 m² and offers a range of areas. These include a stadium, two tennis courts, a fitness trail and an outdoor wellness area. This distinguishes the complex from the GR®51: here, you can choose from various sports and recreation areas, while the trail is a hiking section ending at La Manda. You can plan around the type of activity you want to prioritize during your stay.

Cultural Heritage and Local History

The Chapelle Saint-Roch in La Sirole was built in the 19th century at the request of the neighborhood’s residents. It features frescoes and a stained-glass window signed by Jackie Decroix. The residents’ role in its creation and its features make the chapel a tangible way to explore local history.

The Notre-Dame de la Nativité church was completed in 1830 and features neoclassical architecture. Together with the Chapelle Saint-Roch, it offers a comparison between two buildings: the church’s completion date and style help place it in context, while the chapel stands out for the residents’ initiative and its features.

The restored communal Four Ă  pain in La Sirole also offers a glimpse into everyday history. It preserves the traditional village craft of breadmaking and lets visitors learn about past uses and ways of life. Unlike the church and chapel, the focus here is on communal craft rather than architecture.

The historic water infrastructure adds another dimension to these themes: the Rigole d'eau n° 2 branch of the Canal de la Vésubie once supplied Colomars with water. It therefore represents a different aspect of local history from the religious buildings and the communal oven: the town’s former water supply.

Olive Growing and Finding Accommodation

The Oliveraie de la Sirole in Colomars welcomes visitors. André Giauffret works there as an olive grower and owner, and produces olive paste and olive oil. This adds a direct connection to olive growing and local products to the nature and cultural heritage themes. If you are planning a visit, check the visiting arrangements in advance.
