A millstone for hulling spelt and a wooden waterwheel are among the historic features of the Moulin Delestic. Together with traces of the medieval fortifications, hiking and two weekly markets, they give visitors several different ways to experience the area. The village lies in the Luberon Regional Natural Park; specific days of the week and historic buildings provide a clear local framework for planning your stay.

Hiking and scenery

A tourism listing updated on 27 May 2024 mentions a full-day hike with Randos Reillanne, departing from Place de la Libération on Tuesdays. For Friday mornings, the same listing mentions an approximately three-hour hike in the area around Reillanne for moderately experienced hikers. The two outings therefore differ mainly in the time they require: Tuesday is a full day of hiking, while Friday is a shorter morning outing. Check the current schedule in advance if you plan to join one of the hikes.

Information panels about “Autour du Luberon” and local circular trails have also been installed in Reillanne. The orientation panel at Saint-Denis offers views of the Luberon, the Alps and the Montagne de Lure.

Mill history and medieval traces

The Moulin Delestic, also known as the Moulin Agnelier or Moulin de l’Agnelet, was rebuilt in 1859 on the ruins of an earlier mill and operated until 1955. It preserves historic milling equipment, including a flint millstone, a millstone for hulling spelt and a wooden waterwheel. The buildings of the Moulin Delestic, including the weir and channel, were listed as historic monuments by decree dated 28 May 1993.

Notre-Dame de l'Assomption also offers a tangible connection to the village’s architectural history. The church has been protected as a historic monument since 21 January 2019. Parts of the nave, the transept with its transverse barrel vault, the polygonal apse and the southern apsidiole may date from the late 12th or early 13th century, based on a comparison. This dating remains a possibility, not a definitive conclusion.

The tower of the former castle and the fortified gates recall the village’s medieval fortifications. Together, the mill, church and fortifications illustrate different aspects of local history: the use of milling technology, the development of religious architecture and the former defensive structure.

Weekly markets at Place de la Libération

The Thursday morning market at Place de la Libération offers fruit, vegetables, food products and cheese. On Sunday mornings, the same square hosts Reillanne’s main weekly market. The two market days therefore differ both in the day of the week and in their stated role: the Thursday market is described by its product categories, while Sunday is identified as the main weekly market.

If visiting a market is important for your travel dates, check the latest information in advance; market details may change. Alongside the market mornings, your schedule can include one of two hiking days: a full-day outing on Tuesday or an approximately three-hour hike on Friday morning. You can take these options into account when choosing your travel dates and deciding what will shape your stay.
