La Foux brings together the source of the Verdon, hiking trails, local history and seasonal activities. The river rises in La Foux d’Allos; the Cingle Plongeur themed trail explains how it originates. This gives you several options when planning your trip: nature and cultural heritage, hiking, mountain biking or winter sports.

The Verdon and local history

At the entrance to the hamlet of La Foux, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church stands on the left bank of the Verdon. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel was probably built in the 17th century. The riverside setting and religious building give your visit both a cultural and a scenic focus. Here, a specific riverside location and a historic building period take centre stage—another way to explore La Foux beyond choosing a hiking or mountain biking route.

Hiking and views

The Cingle Plongeur is a 3.2-kilometre themed hiking trail in La Foux. It explains how the Verdon originates and includes a landscape information panel. Weather and seasonal access may vary; check conditions before setting out. The summit of Rochegrand offers a different view of the landscape: a 360-degree panorama of the high peaks above the Val d’Allos. While the Cingle Plongeur focuses on the source of the Verdon, Rochegrand turns your attention to the peaks.

The hike to the Refuge de l’Estrop begins at the Pont de Labrau chairlift and offers a viewpoint between the upper Bléone Valley and the Haut-Verdon. Weather and seasonal access may vary here too. The chairlift operates seasonally; check its operating status and the conditions for your planned date before including this hike in your plans.

Mountain biking, winter sports and scenery

The mountain biking options differ considerably in their route features. “La Foux village par le plateau” is an electrically assisted cycling route. “L’Aiguille” is a short high-altitude route above the Val d’Allos–La Foux resort and passes through alpine pastures. “Les sources du Verdon” is a family-friendly mountain route with views of the sources of the Verdon. Route conditions may vary by season; check conditions before setting out.

The Verdon Express is located in La Foux d’Allos, is a family attraction and has a 995-metre circuit. Its length offers a specific point of comparison with the 3.2-kilometre Cingle Plongeur, although these are different kinds of attractions. The Verdon Express operates seasonally; check the information for your travel dates. The Val d’Allos–La Foux ski area is also part of the Espace Lumière ski area and operates seasonally.

The landscape of La Foux d’Allos includes wooden chalets and alpine pastures where herds graze. This landscape is a focus in its own right, alongside the named routes and viewpoints. Whether you are more interested in the river’s source, a panoramic view, a mountain biking route or seasonal winter sports, the relevant conditions and information for your travel dates will help you plan.
