Nalliers offers two different ways to explore: riverside paths and local history. The Aire de loisirs des bords de Gartempe is located by the river and offers opportunities for fishing, as well as access to walking paths. The “Au fil du temps” trail introduces the town’s historically influential families. The Manoir, Château and Église Saint-Hilaire add concrete traces of architecture and history to the theme. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Nalliers, these highlights can help you plan your stay.

By the river

The Aire de loisirs des bords de Gartempe combines its riverside location with two different activities: fishing and access to walking paths. When planning, you can choose between an activity on the water and exploring on foot. The riverside setting is a distinctive landscape feature of the area; fishing and walking paths offer different ways to enjoy it. If you like to plan a stay around a specific leisure activity, you can make fishing a focus here. If you prefer to get around on foot, there is an option for you too. Both are part of the same leisure area, but there is no set itinerary.

A trail with a historical theme

The “Au fil du temps” trail introduces the historically influential families of Nalliers. It can be explored on foot, by hybrid bike (VTC), by mountain bike or on horseback; it is also classified as very easy. This clearly distinguishes the theme from the ways of getting around: the families’ history gives the trail its focus, while you can choose from four listed ways to explore it. This makes the trail a different way to discover Nalliers from the riverside leisure area, with its fishing and walking paths. If you would like to explore local history beyond individual buildings, this trail offers an introduction to the families who shaped Nalliers.

The Manoir and Château: two types of architecture

The Manoir de Lauzon, also known as “Le petit Nalliers”, was built at the beginning of the 16th century. It is a fortified house with a three-storey main building, a rear side wing and an adjoining wing. By contrast, the Château was built according to a military defensive plan. Of its four towers, the northeast and southwest towers remain. The Château belonged to the D’Allemaigne, or d’Allemagne, family from around 900 to 1670. The buildings can be distinguished by different details: the Manoir by its construction date and building features, and the Château by its defensive layout, towers and the approximate period of family ownership.

The history of Église Saint-Hilaire

Église Saint-Hilaire was first mentioned in 1093 and remained under the authority of Abbaye de Saint-Savin until the French Revolution. Most of the church was rebuilt in the 15th century. It was listed as a historic monument, together with the rectory, in 1993. The dates refer to different events: 1093 marks the church’s first mention, the 15th century its substantial reconstruction, and 1993 the listing of the church and rectory. Together with the Manoir and Château, these details do not point to a single construction date for Nalliers, but rather to a local history spanning different periods and architectural styles.
