The Forêt domaniale de Moulière, with its many natural areas and trails, borders Bignoux directly. The area also features Route 34A, “La cloche perdue,” and a rich architectural history. The landscape, a trail with a clearly specified distance, and local cultural themes give your stay a range of different focuses.

Forest and Route 34A

Around 50 percent of the commune of Bignoux is wooded. Forest covers a total of 715 hectares, of which 289 hectares are part of the Forêt de Moulière. This gives a specific figure for the area of the Forêt de Moulière, as well as the overall share of woodland in the commune.

Route 34A, “La cloche perdue,” is 10 to 15 kilometers long. The estimated durations vary by activity: 1 to 2 hours by mountain bike and 2 to 3 hours on foot. This distinction helps you estimate how much time to allow based on your planned mode of travel.

Church and historic buildings

The medieval Saint-Hilaire Church was destroyed during the French Revolution; the present-day building dates from the last quarter of the 19th century. At the portal, the bell tower is the only part built from dressed stone blocks. All the other elevations consist of rendered rubble masonry. This clearly distinguishes the building’s earlier history from its present form.

Bignoux’s historic buildings also include Logis de Château Fromage, which dates to the 11th century, and Manoir de la Grande Foye, from the 13th century. Together with the present-day church building, they form a timeline spanning the Middle Ages to the late 19th century. These three buildings offer different points of reference for understanding the history of the area.

Outdoor activities

Xtrem Nature Paintball Club offers paintball in Bignoux every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year. On weekdays, the activity is available by prior reservation. The site covers one hectare of woodland and is equipped with wooden structures. Check availability before your trip.

Weather permitting, Esprit Archerie offers outdoor field archery and 3D archery. Check seasonal opening before your trip. The planning requirements differ: weekday paintball requires a reservation, while archery depends on the weather and season.

Community life and local heritage

The Témoignage et transmission du patrimoine bignolais association organizes a volunteer-run Poule-au-Pot meal every year on November 11. If you plan to attend, check the details of the current event before you arrive. The association also organizes an annual exhibition on local life. The collected documents can be consulted in the local heritage room. Alongside the annual meal, the exhibition and document consultation offer different ways to discover local life.
