Saint-Pierre-des-Échaubrognes combines hiking trails, a playful heritage trail and an ecologically diverse forest. You can therefore make exercise, observing nature and local history different focal points of your stay. These themes provide concrete starting points for planning your hotel and trip.

Hiking and choosing a trail

The municipality offers three hiking trails, which it maintains with the hiking group “Les Croquenots.” This gives you several routes to choose from for a hike. The Sentier du Cul de l’Enfer runs alongside a pond and then heads back towards the village centre. The stretch by the pond and the return to the village provide two concrete points of reference for your planning. Check local trail conditions before setting off.

Forest and nature

The INPN edition dated 12 June 2024 describes the Forêt de Boissière as an Atlantic oak forest on acidic soils, extensively planted with conifers, and identifies three mesotrophic ponds. For the meso-oligotrophic ponds, it notes a species-rich community of rare or endangered plant species from the Atlantic region. The edition also records numerous characteristic plant species along the sandy, intermittently damp forest paths. For nature enthusiasts, forest type, ponds and plant life are all part of the picture, rather than the area's natural appeal being limited to a single type of landscape.

Landscape and natural features

The municipality's entire area (100.0%) falls within the “Bocages deux-sévriens” landscape unit. The Forêt de Boissière is also a type 1 ZNIEFF site and covers less than 1% of the municipality. These figures refer to different scales: the landscape unit covers the municipality as a whole, while the protected site accounts for only a small share of it. At La Taillanderie, four notable trees are recorded—three oaks and an ash. The Moine river runs for approximately 3.3 km within the municipality. Thus, a landscape classification covering the whole municipality and individual natural features relate to different spatial contexts.

Discover the heritage

The “Patrimoine parcours ludique” is designed for adults and children. Along the trail, you can look for clues as you observe historical, architectural or natural heritage. An introductory panel guides participants along the route. The scavenger-hunt format gives you a specific reason to look closely: your attention is drawn not only to the route but also to the different forms of heritage. If you are travelling with children, the trail offers a shared way to explore. Check the signs on site before taking the trail.

Local history

Saint-Hilaire-des-Échaubrognes was dissolved in 1808 and incorporated into Saint-Pierre-des-Échaubrognes in 1824. Sixteen years separate these two events; the dissolution and the later incorporation are therefore two distinct steps in the area's history.

Accommodation and farm shop

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, Le Cheval Blanc is one concrete option: it is listed as a hotel-restaurant serving traditional cuisine. Check current availability for your planned stay. Another practical detail concerns the farm shop at Audouit Romain, which is open on Thursdays from 6 to 7 pm. Check the hours before travelling so you can include a visit in your plans.
