The Cébron flows through Saint-Germain-de-Longue-Chaume. If you want to spend time outdoors, there are specific options to consider: a marked hiking route passes through the village, and a mountain biking route also runs through Saint-Germain. There is also a fitness trail in the La Coussotte residential area. The options differ in activity, distance details and location. To help you decide, first consider whether you want to hike, mountain bike or use the fitness trail; then the markings, route and stated walking time can help narrow down your choice.

Hiking with different points of reference

The “De la Roche au Pont de Sunay” route passes through Saint-Germain-de-Longue-Chaume and is marked in yellow. It runs near the priory church. A pastoral visit on 19 November 1598 documents the church of Saint-Germain-de-Longue-Chaume. This provides two distinct points of reference: the route links the hike to the village and the church, while the date offers a specific historical anchor. If you would also like to take local history into account on your hike, the church’s proximity provides a clear point of reference. The markings, route through the village and connection to the church help you assess this route according to your specific interests.

The “Les sources du Cébron” route is also marked in yellow. It is 7.5 kilometres long, passes the hamlet of Colombier and has a stated walking time of two hours. Both routes are therefore marked in yellow, but their other points of reference differ: “De la Roche au Pont de Sunay” passes through Saint-Germain and near the priory church; “Les sources du Cébron” focuses on Colombier, distance and walking time. If you want to use a specific time estimate to plan your day, the two hours refer to the walking time for this route. This lets you weigh up a route linked to the village and church against a hike with a stated duration and distance.

Mountain biking and the fitness trail

For mountain biking, the “Promenez-vous – VTT Amailloux” route passes through Saint-Germain-de-Longue-Chaume. It is 23.4 kilometres long. Compared with the 7.5 kilometres of “Les sources du Cébron”, that is a considerably longer stated distance; since one is for mountain biking and the other for hiking, the figures relate to different types of activity. The two-hour walking time for “Les sources du Cébron” applies to that hike, not to the mountain biking route. If you choose based on the type of activity, the distinction is clear: a 23.4-kilometre mountain biking route on the one hand, and a hike with a stated distance and walking time on the other. There is also a fitness trail in the La Coussotte residential area. Check before your trip whether the trail is accessible.

A note for planning your visit

The Moulin de la Brézanchère is privately owned and is currently used as a residence. Take this into account when planning your visit, and do not assume the mill is a public sightseeing attraction. This distinction is important when considering the buildings: the marked hiking route passes near the priory church, while the Moulin is a private residence.
