Lezay offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: local history on a trail featuring old postcards, walks along the Chaboussant, and cultural and religious sites. Another point of interest is a natural area important for birds of the open plains. This lets you choose whether to focus your stay on history, culture or landscape.

Local history along the trail

The “Lezay d’hier à aujourd’hui” trail passes through the town and the Chaboussant valley. Its 26 old postcards tell the town’s story and give the route a clear historical focus. The postcards are the means of sharing that story: they bring local history into a walking tour that also passes through the town and valley. For travelers who want to discover Lezay through more than just individual buildings, this offers a distinct way to explore the town’s history.

Along the Chaboussant and at the Moulin du Marais

The Chaboussant rises in southwestern Lezay, and its valley forms part of the historic trail described above. A walk along the Chaboussant also takes you past a pond and the Moulin du Marais. The two routes have different focuses: “Lezay d’hier à aujourd’hui” centers on the town’s history, while the walk by the water offers the pond and Moulin as specific landmarks.

The Moulin du Marais includes spaces for artist residencies, an event hall and an open-air theater. The site therefore serves several cultural purposes, from artist residencies to indoor and outdoor event spaces. If you are planning your stay around art or culture, the Moulin adds another way to experience Lezay alongside its historic trails. La laiterie is also among the commune’s places worth visiting.

Religious sites and historic buildings

A trail to the Protestant family cemeteries also leads to the Logis de Teillé. The Logis dates from the 13th century, and some of its moats have been preserved. This historic route offers a different perspective from the postcard trail: here, the Protestant family cemeteries and a medieval building with partly preserved moats are explored together.

The Saint-Médard parish church is located at Place du Marché. The Temple de Lezay is at 18 Rue du Temple. Services are held there on some Sundays throughout the year at 10:30 a.m.; check the events calendar for the latest information. If you would like to attend a service, check the calendar in advance, as dates depend on the temple’s schedule.

Landscape and birdlife

The ZNIEFF Plaine de la Mothe Saint-Héray-Lezay includes wet meadows and calcareous grasslands. This area is very important for birds of the open plains. Information about its habitats and birdlife gives the landscape a distinct ecological focus alongside the historic trails and cultural sites. If you explore Lezay with different interests in mind, this natural area offers another perspective on the region: the focus here is on open-plain habitats, rather than the history of individual buildings.
