The pyramid on the Pont de l’Antenne was listed as a historic monument by decree on 24 May 1965. Together with visible traces of the Via Agrippa, the wine-growing tradition and the landscapes along the Antenne, it reveals the different sides of Saint-Sulpice-de-Cognac. When planning your visit, you can focus on local history, nature or both.

Nature between the Antenne and the plateau

Chaudrolles is a small limestone slope with Mediterranean-influenced vegetation. The plants are adapted to shallow, dry soils that become very hot in the sun; eleven orchid species can be found in the area. Those interested in plants and habitats will find a clearly defined focus here: the limestone ground, dry heat and orchids together shape the character of the slope.

In the lowlands along the Antenne, there are shady riverbanks and old mills. The higher plateau combines mushroom-rich woodland with neatly arranged rows of vines. Shaded riverbanks and upland scenery shaped by woodland and wine-growing thus sit side by side as distinct landscapes. The Vallée de l’Antenne in Saint-Sulpice-de-Cognac includes former surface and underground limestone quarries; this past use adds a historical dimension to the landscape.

Historic traces in the village

Traces of the Roman Via Agrippa are still visible in the landscape around Saint-Sulpice-de-Cognac. Only the church remains of the former priory; it later became the parish church. A column on the Pont de Saint-Sulpice commemorates the gathering of Protestant troops there in 1569. These landmarks represent different layers of history: Roman road traces, religious architectural history and a specific episode from the 16th century.

The Moulin de Chez Gauthier has been preserved and restored in its original setting. A project centred on the mill includes initiatives to enhance the cultural and natural heritage, as well as visits and nature outings designed to raise public awareness. During the visit announced for 20 and 21 September 2025, walnut oil was made at the Moulin de Chez Gauthier.
