In Nouvion, sacred art and local history sit alongside opportunities for walks and cycle rides. The church of Saint-Maurice is a prominent landmark: its stained-glass windows were installed in several stages, combining the history of craftsmanship with religious imagery. Nouvion is one of the villages bearing the “Pays d’art et d’histoire” label and lies within the Baie de Somme Picardie maritime Regional Natural Park. When planning your trip, you can focus on local history, organised discovery tours or cycling.

Church Art and Historic Sites

The stained-glass windows in Nouvion’s church of Saint-Maurice were made by the Bulteau-Jupin workshops in Reims. They were installed in stages: from 1873 in the nave, from 1879 in the two side chapels, and in 1895 in the upper part of the nave. The ensemble depicts saints and uses these figures to illustrate the ancient and local roots of Catholicism in France. The workshop, the sequence of their creation and the iconography offer three concrete ways to explore the same heritage. Those interested in art history can view the windows both as works of art and as evidence of religious visual traditions.

The sculptural group “Vierge de Pitié” is also associated with the church of Saint-Maurice; check locally whether it is currently on view. Nouvion’s listed historic sites also include Château Hautefeuille and a Merovingian necropolis. The area’s heritage thus includes other historic landmarks in addition to its religious art.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

There are several travel options to consider. The A28 motorway is 12 kilometres from Nouvion and runs towards Rouen; check your current route guidance before setting off. The SNCF station serving long-distance trains on the Paris–Boulogne route is in Noyelles-sur-Mer, 5 kilometres from Nouvion. Daily bus services also run from Nouvion to Abbeville, which is 12 kilometres away. The options therefore differ: the station is in Noyelles-sur-Mer, while the bus connects Nouvion with Abbeville and the A28 provides a route towards Rouen.
