Grand-Laviers combines nature attractions with striking examples of village architecture. A bird reserve with circular trails and two easy walking trails offer different ways to spend time outdoors. The Eglise Saint-Fuscien and old farmhouses add to the picture of the area’s architectural history. For planning your trip, the stated walking times and route-finding information are particularly helpful.

A dry valley and limestone-rich habitats

The Val de Grand-Laviers, also known as the Val aux Lépreux, is a small dry valley with no permanent watercourse. It stretches 3 km to the Somme Valley. Its ecological potential is linked to its location on the valley floor and plateau, as well as to the vegetation of limestone-rich habitats. The valley and its landscape features offer a distinct natural attraction alongside the circular trails and bird reserve.

Walks in the bird reserve

The Réserve Ornithologique Baie de Somme - Grand-Laviers can be visited independently and offers three circular trails. The short yellow trail takes 45 minutes, the medium green trail 1 hour 30 minutes, and the long red trail 2 hours 30 minutes. This gives you a choice of short, medium, and longer visits without having to plan a guided tour.

The Réserve Ornithologique de Grand Laviers is also a partner site of the Festival de l'Oiseau et de la Nature, which offers nature outings and activities for children. The specific activities depend on the festival edition. This festival connection adds another nature attraction to the walks, but does not mean that a particular program is scheduled for your travel dates.

Easy walking trails: same walking time, different lengths

The Circuit du tofflet is 4.5 km long, and the Circuit de Buigny is 5.7 km long. Both are classified as easy walking trails, and the average walking time for each is 1 hour 30 minutes. The longer route is therefore 1.2 km longer, while the difficulty and stated average time are the same. This comparison can help you choose if you want to weigh up the route length while planning a similar amount of time.

The routes are also alike in terms of navigation: neither is signposted, and you need to use the GPX or KML track for both. The Circuit du tofflet starts on Rue des Moissons and ends back in Grand-Laviers. The Circuit de Buigny starts on Route du Val and also leads back to Grand-Laviers. Before setting off, check that you have the right track for your chosen route.

Church and old farmhouses

The Eglise Saint-Fuscien has an exposed roof structure. Its 16th-century triumphal arch is as wide as the nave. The church opens for self-guided visits in summer; check the current opening arrangements before visiting. This means you can plan a visit as a seasonal option rather than assuming access year-round.

The history of agricultural architecture is also part of the character of Grand-Laviers and its hamlet: there are several old large farms there, including three on Rue de Buigny. These farms consist of a broad farmhouse and several agricultural buildings. The village also has smaller old farmhouses. Individual buildings may be privately owned. Together with the church, the farms represent a different focus from the nature attractions: agricultural farm complexes and religious architecture rather than circular trails and walking routes.
