Belloy-Sur-Somme can be explored through two distinctive themes: the nearly 90-hectare Marais de Belloy-sur-Somme and a heritage that ranges from historic buildings to an Upper Paleolithic archaeological site. There is also a signposted educational trail, walking routes and pony lessons. This lets you choose different focuses for your stay—nature, history or a specific activity.

The marsh and its habitats

The Marais de Belloy-sur-Somme is a preserved wetland of high ecological value. Its habitats include ponds, floating peat mats, reed beds and wet woodland. The different terms show that several components of a wetland come together here. A signposted educational trail leads through the marsh, providing a tangible connection to nature during your stay.

The diversity of plant life is another notable feature of the area: 355 plant species have been recorded in the marsh, 18 of which are on the Red List of threatened plant species in Hauts-de-France. The number of listed species also places the botanical diversity in a regional nature conservation context.

Buildings and different periods

The Château d’en bas, its park and outbuildings are listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments. The Chapelle du Château d’en bas is also classified as a historic monument. This means that the historic site includes not only the château itself but also the park, outbuildings and chapel; the chapel has its own monument status.

The present-day Église Saint Nicolas was consecrated on 31 August 1845. The Château d’en haut took on its present form in the 18th century. Its historic features also include a half-timbered and earth-built dovecote, which is likewise listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments. The church, château and dovecote each have their own architectural and historical character.

The Gisement de la Plaisance, an Upper Paleolithic archaeological site in Belloy-Sur-Somme, opens a much earlier chapter. Excavations uncovered tools dating from around 10,000 years ago. The timeline thus stretches from archaeological finds to later buildings: the Château d’en haut has had its present form since the 18th century, and the church was consecrated in 1845.

Planning walks and activities

The Circuit des iris starts in Belloy-Sur-Somme and is listed as a walk lasting three hours and covering 7.9 km. The Belloy - La Chaussée route focuses on history and waterways. The details offer different planning information: the Circuit has a stated duration and distance, while Belloy - La Chaussée has a stated theme.

Another activity is the Poney club at Les Écuries de Belloy-sur-Somme. Pony lessons for children aged three and over are offered there year-round. As activities may change, check in advance whether lessons are available on your chosen date.
