Trie-Château offers several different starting points for a cultural trip: a dolmen, a church with Romanesque architecture, historic buildings and walking routes through the town. You can focus on individual works of art and architecture or combine local history with a walk. Planning is straightforward, too: the routes differ considerably in length and theme.

Church and Architectural History

The Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine has been classified as a historic monument since 1862. Its Romanesque façade is distinguished by lavish decoration. The building phases also tell a longer story: the single-nave church dates from the 11th century, the narthex from the 1160s, and the two-bay choir was built around 1200. These different dates give the church a multifaceted architectural profile.

The church houses the oil painting “Adoration des bergers” on the north wall of the nave. Whether you can view it depends on access to the church. If you want to take a closer look at the architecture, it is worth considering the façade and interior as distinct aspects of the building: the Romanesque decoration outside, and the sequence of structural elements and the painting inside.

Historic Sites and Figures

The Dolmen des Trois-Pierres is located in La Garenne in Trie-Château and was classified as a historic monument in 1862. Another, considerably older structure is the Porte fortifiée: this fortified town gate dates from the 15th century and was classified in 1936. The Auditoire de Justice was built between 1170 and 1190 and served as the seat of seigneurial justice. Together, these buildings offer different ways to explore local history, from a prehistoric monument to medieval functions.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau is also part of local memory: a statue created by H. Greber, a sculptor from Beauvais, was unveiled in July 1911 at the entrance to the château park. It is also part of the Patrimoine Trie-Châtelain walking route. Local history is encountered not only in the architecture, but also in the memory of a prominent figure.

Two Routes, Different Distances

Patrimoine Trie-Châtelain is a 1 km urban walking route designed as a short cultural trail. Eight information panels describe the commune’s monuments and notable figures. The condition of individual panels may change; check on site if necessary. You should also check locally before your visit to confirm access to the route itself.

At 14.4 km, La Boucle du Dolmen is considerably longer and rated difficult. The marked trail starts at the Chambors roundabout in Trie-Château. The route passes the Dolmen des Trois-Pierres and a menhir in Trie-Château. From Chemin des Groux, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the village and the Troesne valley. Check local conditions and signage before setting out. The distances and difficulty ratings offer a clear comparison: one is a short urban cultural trail, while the other is a longer, challenging route connected with the landscape and dolmens.

Park and Landscape

The château park in Trie-Château has a remarkable arboretum. The Flânerie Trie-Châtelaine also takes in green spaces, including Parc de l’Hôtel de Ville and the arboretum. It thus complements the monument-focused themes of the other two routes with parks and trees. Those chiefly interested in architecture will find the church and the Porte fortifiée well suited to their interests; those looking to combine scenery with a longer walk can refer to the information on La Boucle du Dolmen.

There is no need for blanket recommendations when choosing between the routes: Patrimoine Trie-Châtelain focuses on a short distance and local history, while La Boucle du Dolmen is much longer and has a stated difficulty rating. The buildings, information panels and landscape viewpoints described here can help you explore Trie-Château according to your interests and plan your visit accordingly.
