For a stay in Litz, there are several distinct options to focus on: the architectural history of the Église Saint-Lucien, the surviving buildings of the Prieuré de Wariville, and designated trails with their own landscapes and activity profiles. Depending on your interests, you can focus on cultural history, the garden, which is open seasonally, or hiking and mountain biking. Specific differences can help you choose: construction dates and listed status on the one hand, surviving buildings and archaeological remains on the other, as well as route length and permitted uses.

Église Saint-Lucien: Architectural History Across Two Centuries

The nave of the Église Saint-Lucien dates from the 13th century and bears traces of painted decoration. The Late Gothic choir dates from the 16th century. The two parts of the building therefore belong to different centuries; traces of the painted decoration also remain. By decree of 14 October 2002, the Église Saint-Lucien was listed as a historic monument. The church can thus be dated both through its construction phases and through its later listing.

Prieuré de Wariville: Buildings and Remains

The Prieuré de Wariville was a Fontevrist priory founded in 1134. The surviving remains include buildings from the former guest courtyard at the priory’s former entrance. Among them is an 18th-century residence built of brick and stone. The rest of the site consists of archaeological remains. The buildings and remains thus represent different parts of the site: not all of it survives as buildings.

The garden of the Prieuré de Wariville is open to the public in summer. As access is seasonal, confirm the opening arrangements before your visit.

Trails by Activity and Landscape

The 13.8 km La vallée de la Brèche route is designated for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. Its scenic highlights include the Brèche Valley and the Hez-Froidmont Forest. The route’s length and permitted uses offer practical starting points for planning; the landscapes mentioned add to its particular character.

Le chemin des quatre vents passes through Litz. The hike alternates between open plains and picturesque villages and takes in the Brèche Valley. The changing scenery offers a different focus from choosing solely by route length or type of activity.

The 21 km Du mont Volant aux Ployes mountain bike route also passes through Litz. It includes a technical section in the Hez-Froidmont Forest. This gives you specific points of comparison between the two mountain biking options: La vallée de la Brèche is 13.8 km long and highlights the valley and forest, while Du mont Volant aux Ployes is 21 km long and features the technical section. Check trail conditions before setting out.
