The Le sentier de Bo-wé nature trail, the natural setting of the Plan d'eau de Boué, and the architectural history of the church and former railway station give Boue a variety of points of interest. If you are looking for accommodation in Boue, consider whether nature watching or historical themes will shape your stay more.

Nature on the trail

Le sentier de Bo-wé is a family-friendly interpretive trail with numerous signs about local wildlife and plants. At 1.8 km long, with a stated duration of 30 minutes, it makes for a clearly defined activity. If, on a walk, you would rather learn about local nature than simply cover distance, its interpretive focus may suit you. Check the trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Plan d'eau: Nature and former use

At the Plan d'eau de Boué, a discovery trail offers views of the surrounding natural landscape. The water body also once served as a reservoir for the Sambre-Oise Canal; its former function adds a historical dimension to the natural setting. With patience and quiet, you may spot many groups of birds, including ducks, kingfishers, grey herons and coots. Sightings vary by season, so this is better suited to attentive observation than to expecting to see a particular species. The discovery trail offers a chance to take in the surrounding nature, while birdwatching calls above all for quiet and patience.

Architectural history and stained-glass windows

The parish church of Saint-Nicolas de Boué may have been built in the 16th century; the choir from that building survives. In the 18th century, the nave was almost entirely rebuilt. Window openings were also created in the choir. The ensemble of 16 stained-glass windows (window openings 0 to 12 and 100) is located in the choir and nave. It was commissioned in 1922 from the Paris workshop of brothers Joseph and Henri Mauméjean and installed in 1923. The imagery includes a depiction of Boué in destruction and reconstruction. A possibly older church building, the changes to the nave and the precisely dated stained glass thus represent different periods side by side.

The former railway station

Boue's former railway station was on the Busigny–Hirson railway line, which entered service around 1885. The station was destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt in 1921 on the site of the previous station's platform. The history of the line and the rebuilding of the station mark two distinct points in the town's history.
