Luçon brings together the sacred buildings of the cathedral and Chapelle des Ursulines, the houses of Bourgneuf, Jardin Dumaine and the covered market, Les Halles. For your stay, you can choose between architecture, a garden visit, the market and activities on foot or by bike. A walking tour and a cycling route along the canal differ in length and destination.

Cathedral, Chapel and Bourgneuf

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption has been the seat of the Diocese of Luçon since 1317. The cloister is open to visitors at the same time as the cathedral. Check again before your trip to confirm that it is open to visitors. The Circuit clouté starts at the cathedral, so you can combine a visit to the building with the start of a city walk.

Chapelle des Ursulines dates from the late 17th century and has a painted wooden ceiling considered unique in the entire west of France. While the cathedral stands out for its role as the seat of the diocese, here the ceiling takes centre stage as a distinctive feature. The Bourgneuf district has numerous townhouses and Poitevin houses. This broadens the architectural perspective from sacred buildings to the houses in the district.

City Walk and Cycling Route

Le Circuit clouté is a circular route of about 6.5 kilometres, starting at the cathedral and ending at Place Leclerc. There are 47 points along the way. The route is therefore defined not only by its approximate distance and two endpoints, but also by the number of points.

The cycling route is 24.5 kilometres long, follows the canal and goes as far as Triaize. It is considerably longer than the walking route and has a different destination. When choosing between them, you can take into account the mode of transport, distance and destination.

Garden, Market and Guided Visits

Jardin Dumaine covers four hectares and is maintained by the municipal gardening service. You can visit it independently throughout the year. This makes the garden a visitor attraction in its own right, alongside the walking and cycling routes. Its area is equivalent to 40,000 square metres.

Les Halles is a covered market in Luçon. The central ring offers seafood and other products from the sea. The market adds a distinct focus on these products to the visits to the architecture and gardens.

The guided city tours listed for 2026 by A Luçon Tourisme Patrimoine are aimed particularly at groups. The seasonal programme may change, so check the dates before making plans. These group-oriented tours differ in format from the garden, which you can explore independently.
